There was a good SUP article called: "Stand Up Paddling - No Surf Required" in the July 2011 edition of My Natural Awakenings magazine written by Lauressa Nelson. Regardless of whether you flat water paddle or surf your SUP, this article had some good points: -Low impact total body workout and mental release (exercise in disguise) -Improves Balance -One of the few sports that allows peope to maintain a coversation -Allow views in every direction & is "like walking on water" -SUP is a lifetime sport I would be interested in hearing what others like about SUP?

Freedom to just go. Waves or not, you can enjoy the ocean and are in the water more.
Can catch waves from further out. Challenge of handling a big board. ------------------------- Bald Brother "Surfing is prayer of a high order, the sea a beautiful church, the wave a silent sermon" Tom Blake |

Great reply! Do you ever get the feeling that you are surfing in "slow motion" on a SUP?

I like the fact that on the SUP, you learn how to move with the wave, instead of trying to "shred" the wave. It is a very soulful ride.
I also like to be able to get on the water, no matter what- we are so fortunate to have the ocean AND lagoon. The lagoon is sometimes far more interesting to paddle to see wildlife, but the ocean is nice if you need some time away from civilization. ------------------------- www.craftysurf.com |
