They were so much more fun than angry. It's not like they stumbled around and learned to play as they went, they had flea and a series of great guitarists, my favorite being frusciante on blood sugar sex magic. We called them candy punk. Not as an insult. I saw them live two times in New Orleans, the second time with smashing pumpkins and some new band no one heard of called Pearl Jam. They played the Saturday night fever sound track between bands. They had go go dancers. At one point they were buck naked. After blood sugar sex magic, George Clinton was out, they were reduced to provocative millionaires and the fun was much harder to come by.

I saw them in small club called Visage in Orlando, 1988ish. It was a very fun show. Stage diving, socks, and all. Also, saw them in Daytona for spring break. They got busted for sexual harassment during a vid shoot. I didn't see that but read about it a couple years ago.

they came to Gainesville like three times in two years in the '85 time frame. saw them all. In fact, one time was with Fishbone, who totally blew them away as far as a good show.
