I saw that show in New Orleans last summer. Then I saw Waters in Orlando for the Wall tour. Pretty amazing. He said in an interview this is his last tour.

I envy you Dave. I've been a fan for 47 years. I was 15 and in Alabama, of all places, when I heard them on a midnite AM radio show. Father Tree was the DJ that played this song. Changed my view of what music should be.

I respectfuly beg to differ.  David Gilmour was and still is the main man.  His solo shows can still bring back that eaely 70's tripping vibe like no one else.  There is absolutly nothing like Gilmour on Gibson.  Its just like ridning in  cross country on I-40 in my 62 Chevy van all over again.  Roger however obviously moved on and can't quite bring it all back like David can.  Would love to see them together again though.

BTW, there is no better ring tone than the alarm clock intro to Time.

But Gilmore didn't show up til '67. Gilmour is an outstanding guitarist, but, in a PBS special, said he couldn't read music. Which I guess makes him more spectacular.

I saw Gilmour solo in 1984 (indoors @ LCC), Floyd (minus Waters) in 1987 and 1990 in big stadiums (Miami and Orlando), and Waters last summer (indoors, Tampa).

Overall, my heartstrings are unlocked by Gilmour's guitar.

But the Waters show last summer was one of the best I've ever seen, helped in part by a 6th-row seat dead center. He hired an amazing lead guitarist for that tour.

Gilmour's '84 performance was also spectacular for the sound and moderately cool lighting, but not as much of a "show."

My preference for Gilmour was shaped by his music after the breakup compared to Waters' (Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, yawn...), and Waters-influenced movie "The Wall" being a bit depressing for my taste.

Waters didn't get much airplay from then on. But when I heard a lot of his later solo stuff at the Tampa show, I was blown away. Really, really good.

The whole may have been greater than the sum of the parts, for a while... but I don't think you can keep Waters and Gilmour together any longer than you can keep two fused hydrogen atoms together, without a similar end result.

Was Doyle at any of the last Waters Show? That guy tears a guitar up.

Sweet vids. I don't recall seeing Doyle in Tampa; I think it was all Dave Kilminster on lead guitar there.

But Dave's performance in Tampa, Doyle's performance above, and even Rob Phillips from the Classic Albums Live band have kind of convinced me that Gilmour is ... still human.

They, and other people can copy and re-play Gilmour's riffs, but that doesn't mean they could ever have created them.

Gilmour still gets all the credit for the invention.

One only has to listen to each artist's solo stuff to decide who is more Floyd. Here's 2017 Roger.

Depends on which era of Floyd you're using as a reference. Waters definitely sounds more like where Floyd left off. A lot of the Gilmour guitar work is reminiscent of some classic early Floyd, like this live version of Echoes.

I admit that Floyd was a lot better after Gilmour joined 2 years later. Also i didn't like anything on Waters Pros and Cons fiasco. But Radio KAOS and Amused to Death was almost completely listenable.

Gilmore's influence on the band when he joined was amazing and is a dominant part of their sound. Echos still my favorite Floyd song. Probably one of the top 5 rock guitarists especially in the rock blues area. I saw Pink Floyd twice in the 70s and then I saw Gilmore play Pink Floyd in the late 80s without the band. Love Gilmore's guitar but it wasn't the same and his concert bored me.

I really like Pros and Cons of hitchiking. I read somewhere that it was the B songs that got cut from The Wall album. But, could be wrong on that. It has same flavor as The Wall.

Gilmore's solo albums are more blues oriented rock. I listened to them back in the day. Really good of course. They are both great.

I also go back to the PF's sid's days as well. Trippy music then!

In 1972, maybe 1973, myself and three friends opted for Five Summer Stories over Pink Floyd on a rainy Saturday night in Houston, Tx. When we pulled up to Cullen auditorium, we could see the top of the pig's head and his back looming over the stadium............................bass line THUNDERING while a thin sheet of light rain softened the view of the stage light beaming upward................puff puff, pass........... we scurried in to the auditorium and settled in to a comfy view of surf life we only dreamed ( at that time ) could be ours..............

Blues and rock guitarists don't need to be able to read music. In fact, jazz and classical (and maybe prog) guys are the ones that really need that.

And Gilmour is primarily a Strat player. Through some pedals and into a Hiwatt amp. His #1 influence is BB King.

Gilmour can be replaced and it would still be Floydish. But not Waters.
