I got lucky enough to go to a sneak-preview of the new Grills in Orlando last night. The building is a relative match to the Pineda location but with a more CFL feel. An airboat is suspended above the 3 inch solid cypress server bar. Joe always seems to get the rhythm of his locations. At the port the tiles in the bathroom are Mahi and Sail while the river location is Snook and Reds and this location is bass and crappie. Very cool. Classic Grills menu. I had a taste of the pepper seared tuna (always good), Buffalo wings (perfect level of spice). I then had my go-to blackened Mahi samich w/provolone. Killer. My bud had the blackened Mahi tacos. Again great. I hope they have the same success. Good to see a local do well..... Grills Lakeside

Just looking at the map. Is that the same spot as that one night club in the 80s. Totally forget the name. But I remember it on the lake in the general same spot.

The Park Avenue Club's Spit Night Keeps Bygone Punk Era In Spotlight
June 30, 1985|By Captain Kilmer Joyce

Punk is dead, and punk's anti-fashion safety-pin attire has pretty much given way to whatever new-wave apparel lands upon our shores. But this is okay because Spit Night, Orlando's celebration of the punk era, still survives from 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Park Avenue, 4315 N. Orange Blossom Trail.

''This ain't no Mud Club, this is a disco, and I ain't foolin' around,'' Miss J sang to the tune of the Talking Heads' ''Life During Wartime.''
