looking forward to PA! That state's problematic. Anyone from the East side of PA expects it to be a cheesesteak. Folks from the West side expect a Primanti's style sandwich. I'm glad I have time to noodle on that one. West of course, with Iron City beer. You could go chipped ham or braunschweiger and onions for the bold. ------------------------- “It is the heart of US policy to use fascism to preserve capitalism while claiming to be saving democracy from communism “ - Michael Parenti |

PA memories. When I was very young, in the Pittsburgh and Erie areas, , , , my Grandfathers loved their braunschweiger, onions and mustard sandwiches, and so did I, and still do. And, we'd go to Isaly's and get pounds, and pounds, of paper thin chipped ham.

Beer with a bit of tomato juice and salt in parts of the Midwest (the Dakotas, Montana, Kansas, Nebraska, etc.) This beer preparation, sometimes called a "red beer", is made by mixing beer with tomato juice (you can use whatever ratios you want) to create a summer drink that's both refreshing and good for your prostate. ------------------------- Dora Hates You |

This week's Arizona, and we're doing the Sonoran Hot Dog, invented in Tuscon. You may have to go back to the previous page for the picture; dingpatch and Rusty took up a lot of real estate with childhood memories from the Keystone State. And somehow dingpatch managed to work the word prostate into a food thread. Well done!

Oh, and, , , , Dave,
You could start a little in-house poll amongst your customers in regard to East or West PA. Lots of "friction" there. My cousins in the Pittsburgh area would tell you that they did not know that Philadelphia had a football team and, more importantly, that Philly was actually in New Jersey. What other states have contentious East, West, North, South food rivalries? Perhaps start a little more interest in State Sandwiches. ------------------------- Dora Hates You |

I saw Marky Mark tried out and made it. Anyway, North Carolina and BBQ: West vs Piedmont (Central-ish) vs East -- no love lost between them on that subject! Musical review of Southern BBQ |

The Sandwich Tour of America has alphabetically moved on to Arkansas! This is our spin on the Arkansas lunch staple, the Fried Bologna Sandwich.

stopped in during my ride today, but only had the GF sculpin and the tangerine wheat. We'll be doing a surfrider meeting there this week, so I'll for sure try the fried sammich. I cannot tell you when I last had baloney. [edit] So, the R-Kansas thing was huge. Thick slabs of Baloney, I was thinking deep fried crunchyness, but it was not really that way at all. I shouldn't have eaten the whole thing. I like the Alabama one the most so far. Edited: 06/17/2015 at 03:04 PM by pompano |

The Sandwich Tour of America has alphabetically moved on to California. Things are a bit healthier here compared to the fried bologna sandwich we enjoyed in Arkansas. Check out this house roasted turkey sandwich, with applewood smoked bacon, tomato, avocado aioli and alfalfa sprouts on a chibatta.

Is that undercooked or barely cooked bacon holding the two halves together? Make it crispy bacon & I'm sold. |

Hmm. Yeah, that's an anomaly. Crispy bacon is the standard. They must have rushed this sample one out for the picture. Good catch!

The California sandwich is awesome. The roasted turkey was killer, and bacon fully cooked. The avocado aioli was really good too. I hope this one sticks around. I think it's the best sandwich on the menu.
