Re-visiting this thread, since I am buying a house, and am currently shopping for insurance.

I can't find a "list" of insurance companies out there, (specifically for Brevard or Florida homes) unless ya'll know of one. Or any sites to get free quotes would be nice too.

The list that used to exist about three months ago was: www.shopandcomparerates.com , but that has been turned into a purely Governor site.

Thanks! Pete

www.shopandcomparerates.com was a site Crist put up.

it only affects if there is a storm currently active in the basin.... then they won't write anything new, but untill the storm is named doesn't affect

Ok, I've done a little research on the insurance companies named above, for my house in Mel Bch: 3Br/2Ba, 1450 sq-ft, CBS, built 1974, new roof in '05. I haven't called any yet, but I'll update as I get some quotes.

Here's some contacts I found:

Robinsoninsurance 321-723-1278

Suwanee Insurance

Royal Palm Insurance .com (now part of Tower Hill)

Universal Property Used the online quote, and they did a quick quote in 1 hour of about $4K/yr.

St Johns insurance.com

Golden Heritage 321-453-6565

Farm Bureau 321-676-5424

Advanced Insurance Net 321-255-1077

Any info on these or others would be very helpful!

I use Robinson and have Gulstream Ins. No complaints so far, however it did seem odd to me they did not care much about me doing electrical work in the house, etc. They literally were like, "ok sounds good".

Pagerow, your list is good, I had a few of those companies quote me for coverage.  You can look into Filichia Insurance as well, they quoted me a very competitive price when bought a year ago.  I dont recall who they were underwriting.  To my surprise the homeowners insurance wasnt as high as some people expected me to believe.  We havent had a devastating storm in our area in several years so the rates have come down for new policies.

To all you homeowners out there, dont be afraid to call and get quotes from different providers, the rates are down.  Read the fine print though!
