It's looked inevitable for a while. For a time, both chains could claim to have stores situated on valuable real estate, but Kmart's locations are increasingly obsolete and Sears-anchored malls are dying. Meanwhile, Sam's Club seems to be having difficulties, Walmart seems OK (though their really profitable days may be behind them). Best Buy seems to be thriving. Not sure about Target, but they're showing an ability to keep their stores fresh-looking. Best Buy seems to be thriving.

They just kept reeking the cash cow profits
And never reinvested in new technologies
Or strategies to secure market share and continual
Profitability. At least Walmart /target have seemingly
Kept up and have somewhat of an online
Presence. All the while why amazon continues
To grow and invest in new strategies.

Shoot!!!
and i loved reading the Sears & Roebuck Catalog..

folks used to take the pages and wallpaper the bathroom with them so you would always have something to read!

Further back than that, they used to use the catalogs as toilet paper in out houses.

I wanted to get a digital clock replacement for my oven. Sears parts online had it for $300. I found it on another site for 120. You cannot compete with that.

I poked around in their clothing section and it was like a Jorts festival of unknown brands at relatively high prices. They need buyers that are on the other side of the retirement spectrum.

This isn't surprising.

Once Craftsman and Kenmore went to crap, it was all downhill from there....

Haha, dig this explanation (yeah, okay, it's probably not the whole story).

And, in an obvious departure from topic, because Tbird posted, here's a nice old Sears guitar for sale. Not mine, but I wish.... guitar

Funky pickups! Nice Bigsby. But I would be worried about staying in tune with that scary neck.

Hey, have you seen GA-20, new stripped-down band from Boston area? They use wonderful sounding pawnshop monsters.

I have become addicted to my 60s Tribute Les Paul. I've been tweaking it to be less muddy (P-90s) but it's so easy to heft and play and makes a tube amp beg for mercy.

Cool. I really like the Tribute Les Pauls. One with P-90s would be perfect!

Very similar to mine. I would wait though if you want something a bit more refined. They are midrangey hot output beasties.

Silvertone, well really a "Sears Guitar" by Harmony. I don't think they were called Silvertones then.

MLB store update...went by expecting to get a new fridge and some tools for a few bucks (ya' right). Anyways the salepeople said the liquidators are coming. The odd thing is the sale prices now are supposed to be much better than when they start liquidating. Many items are now 40-60% off...In the next few days the liquidators will show..they will mark everything back up to full price and take 20% off at first.....then few weeks later 30% off....few weeks later 40% off ...etc. They expect to do this until late 2018/early 2019... The deals on big items (appliances, beds, chainsaws, bikes, etc.) are now because they ship from the warehouses to your door if needed..the warranty is covered by a third party that will be around for the 5 year duration. Once the liquidators show no m,ore shipping out of the warehouses....Info is SEARs in MLB owns the store and land, it will go up for sale, My guess is Kaiser may buy it.

So you're saying I should order a chainsaw off their website, or see if they have one at my local store?......... also randomness. Last night I replaced an old (hardwired) smoke alarm in my house that went bad (that was fun at 4am) inside the cover "made by Sears and Roebuck Co."

^ I would go ahead and get the chainsaw now, the online prices appear to be the same as the store but online has more options, you also get $75 in cash points at the store or online (to redeem online or at the store). Any big floor item , they can still ship from warehouse if you buy it on the floor, in a few days that option will be gone in MLB, store stock only....I have no idea how long the website will be up...I am also eyeing chainsaws, really need a decent gas powered one for the jungle my wife created (darn seagrapes gone wild & evil bouganvilla (sp?)) and for 'canes in the future. Rough night for you, sucks to find breakers, voltmeter and disconnect wire caps by flashlight.
