I'm two weeks away from seeing the orthopedic doctor and having a really hard time bearing weight on it. Any info from someone with the same experience and how you were able to recover and continue surfing would be greatly appreciated.

My meniscus was shredded.... had operation to have a good bit trimmed out.

I was surfing in 3 months.....  rehab hard, and exercise everything else while you're "grounded" and you'll be fine.

Good luck

Thanks for the words of encouragement Plan B. I'm hoping for a good outcome and being back in the water soon.

Same as Plan B.

If you are younger than say 50, you should be fine.

Older miniscus can become brittle and tear further.

I'm over 50 and so far mine is OK after the surgery, just no more running (jogging) for me.

Like Plan B says, keep the support muscles as strong as possible.

I had a friend do this and he's stronger than ever.

Ive injured mine a few times. Surgery twice, and likely torn again right now. Always same knee.. pain can be from unable to stand to none at all, as the piece moves around.

Surgery never seemed to get me back to 100% and I stayed pretty intensive on the physical therapy.

Rotation seems to be when it hits me most. I find a knee bace with the two metal joints helps keep it all tight and I get less issue for physical activity.

I've never got back to 100% but good enough, but I'll attribute it to:

a) they had to remove tissue instead of repairing it (so I guess there's some void)

b) maybe its because I'm over 40 now

c) unfortunately shitty knees (cartilage/joints in general) are in my family genetics

one bit of advice..... don't rush back to surf when you're feling stir crazy.  Good chance you can break your foot on your other leg favoring your knee while you're just "screwing around on a longboard" then add another few more months out of the water on crutches*.... or so I've heard

*that really sucked!
