Last night around 945pm during the meteor shower there was something far offshore shooting rockets/flares or something for a few minutes. Didn't know if it was military/nasa or what but they were bigger than a flare I'd say. Any ideas?

i heard we were invaded buy an alien ship last night!!! but upon further discovery

OK just wanted to make sure there wasn't a vessel in distress and I should have called it in to the USCG

Jokes aside, it may have been perspective. Low on the horizon moving towards you sort of thing?

No, it looked like 3 flares going up each time. Happened about 4 or 5 times. They weren't the bright orange color a flare would have. Looked more like the flame coming off a rocket. It was weird and I have no clue what it could have been. Sitting at Pelican facing the ocean they were at the 10-11 o'clock angle but too far to be something at the Cape. I kind of thought maybe it was SpaceX doing some testing on their barge or something to do with the launch.

While offshore one day we saw a series of flares launch - big ass flares, then form plumes of smoke. I thought two planes had a collision.

We called in a distress message to the Coast Guard and they informed us that it was the Air Force on maneuvers. Our base is so quiet we forget that it's actually part of the military.

Stirfry, , , ,

Way back when during that little "Cuban Missile" thing, , , , Patrick AFB was jammed packed with fighter aircraft. They would take off two at a time, damn near wing-tip to wing-tip. My mother would get all freaked out, but my father, The Marine, told her not to worry, they were just flying sorties down to Cuba. Then, he told her, "when they take off 4 at a time, you'l know that it's war, , , ," She soiled herself.

And to get back to "flares", , , , who here was here back in the days leading up to the Apollo launches? Remember the PJ's and their Jolly Greens practicing recoveries every night out over the Atlantic, and all of the flare drops. (Sorry, but from what I've seen of the "Phoenix Lights", most of that was certainly military flares.)
