Well I guess that I am running Quantum now .... thanks to an automatic upgrade setting that I forgot about.
All seems well so far. ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. So far, so good. I never really paid too much attention to my "browser". It all seems to be just like surfing is; IT IS ALWAYS BETTER WHERE YOU ARE NOT!

Got the change, too. So far I am liking it. Not all the old add-ons are compatible, but hopefully they will update them. I liked using NoScript and other blockers. ------------------------- If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD WAS MUSIC - KV |

So far so good for me- Firefox had been really bogging down on my machine for the past few years- it was getting really bad with the last version- forcing me to ctrl-alt-del and stop the task almost daily, as it would slow the whole computer down due to some crap running in the back.
Hoping that quantum stops that mess finally. I use Xmarks for bookmark syncing, and i may lose that after the quantum changes, but xmarks was having their own issues and i would have likely had to ditch them anyway. will probably switch to the built in firefox sync for that . Seems fast. So far my main complaint was the color scheming out of the box in default. But you can change that by going to (menu tab) > add-ons >themes then click "choose from thousands of themes" link and choosing some new themes. I typed "classic" into the search bar there and found some classic FF themes and a nice grey classic windows theme- these worked for me. I'm currently using one called equinox classic Edited: 11/18/2017 at 09:53 PM by paddleout |

I've been trying to avoid Chrome, as I like Firefox (except when it locks up) and have been super hopeful that Quantum would solve my problem- last night it was really looking like that was finally in the past and I could avoid a switch. but the true test- leaving a bunch of tabs open overnight with hoggy websites on them like facebook, ebay and various news sites resulted in a (yet again) unresponsive Firefox by morning that required the task manager kill technique just to get things unstuck. I'm not sure why this is happening, been round and round trying to figure it out, but no luck. Seems it still happens with quantum, but maybe it will just happen less. It seems more stable when things are running at least- not noticing the slowdown as much. so im still going to use it for now. If you have no loyalty to FF at the moment, I'd start over using Chrome, as its what most people use, and likely doesnt have this crashing issue (but maybe its just as bad, i d ont know) |
