"Adoption from a poor family into a better-off one is associated with IQ gains of 12 to 18 points"

Wow.

Today I learned this from this article:
Charles Murray is once again peddling junk science about race and IQ

Mods, this is mostly about science, not politics, but the authors do discuss the political implications of junk science, so it could get messed up, move it if you need to.

does that mean that the IQ test is flawed? is it counting or assuming things as being intelligence that are actually socially learned? Or would you think that the test is fine and that the test subjects are 12 points smarter?

Mostly the latter,
What we call intelligence is partially learned.
