Whats up Herc, wondering if you have any Prehab advice for a herinated disk in neck. Been getting massages done and simple stretch exerciese to releive the pain. Anything to help with stregth or pain relief? Injured it during a wipe where i landed straight on my head after going over the falls, no stress fracture of the spin. Was told it was a compressed spin injury in the neck. |

FLNY,
How was your injury diagnosed? Are you getting massage from a PT or massage therapist? Prehab...are you planning a surgery? Have you looked into your sleeping arrangement? Good shoulder posture can decrease stress on the Cspine. ------------------------- http://www.passmorept.com/blog/?page_id=50 |

Got an x ray(came back negative) and MRI, but never followed up with the MRI. Never went to PT only the chricro and massage therapist for the past year or so. Im going to look into a better pillow and mattress. Now im getting weakness in the shoulder which im sure has to do with neck. thank you. |

Dude! If your getting weakness in your neck and shoulder it could definitely be your neck. And it will only get worse unless you intervene.
Any history of shoulder injuries? Any other symptoms? Does your chiro only "adjust" you and send you to a massage therapist? A PT is trained to manipulate the spine (if needed), soft tissue massage, and exercise prescription in addition to an array of other joint mobilization techniques. One stop shopping. I highly Rec getting evaluated to rule our cervical involvement and worsening of your symptoms. Do you have normal range of motion? If som there is NO reason your neck should me manipulated/adjusted. It will just lead to hypermobility. ------------------------- http://www.passmorept.com/blog/?page_id=50 |

HERC4810 this is great stuff, much appreciated. Do you have an office, billing insurance options? If so post info or link. I limit my surfing due to longstanding neck stuff and having to limit sucks as you can imagine. And I suffer after each sesh but I refuse to stop surfing. I do massage weekly, yoga, stretching, but not chiro. I prefer PT but don't find many PT docs who know much about surfing/surfers. haha, never had a shoulder injury before. i did play collge and pro ball for a few years but never had a serious injury in any shoulder while playing. Pretty much he "adjust" me and send me on my way, i recenlty stop going because i felt it was like cracking your knuckles. The pain would subside for a few and then get worse. I have recntly done some chryotherapy and that has really helped but its expensive lol. Range emotion is good in neck but feels stiff when trying rotate my head to left. Espically when paddling it gets super sore and stiff after an hour. Herc ill be in florida in a few weeks, can i set up an oppoitment with you? Dont care what it cost lol. cant put a price on your health |

Psydlady,
I accept Medicare, cash, surfboards, and good fins. Id be happy to work with you. Good call on avoiding chiro. What about surfing affects your neck? The prolonged neck extension? I'd also look into the upper thoracic extension range of motion. ------------------------- http://www.passmorept.com/blog/?page_id=50 |

FLNY,
PM me for cost. See previous post for methods of payment. Can't look left: sound like specific soft tissue restriction that van be treated with manual therapy such as deep tissue manipulation, trigger point release, and my favorite SNAGs. I'll be out of town the first week of July. Glad you stopped the chiro. Sounds like they weren't one of the good ones. ------------------------- http://www.passmorept.com/blog/?page_id=50 Edited: 06/23/2016 at 12:27 PM by HERC4810 |

Hey again HERC4810. Yes, the prolonged extension is the issue I suspect. Also have issues when lifting heavy (versus lighter) weights during training. PM me your info when you get a moment. Don't have much in the way of fins but I do have cash. ------------------------- "The best surfer out there is the one having the most fun." ~Phil Edwards |

I thought you were providing some useful information.
It may border on a 'pitch for services' but it also seems to border on 'surf related' .... ... and may be providing some good info and a contact for those that wished to pursue for more info and/or help. I'm moving it to NPNR ... ... I may get admonished by the more "senior moderators" but we'll give it a try. ------------------------- Puerto Rico 11 - 24 - 2013 |

Doesn't matter to me where the post is read, as long as I can keep more people surfing.
