Dermo is recommending this for face and ears,

I read about the photosensitivity.

Anybody want to share their experience?

ie - Did it keep you out of the water, and, if so, for how long?

Im a gingy and had to do that stuff last year. Two weeks on, twice a day. Wasn't so bad the first couple days or so, but after that my buddies joked that I looked like Redskull from Captain America. For me, the after effects lasted about 2 weeks so I was out of the water for a good 4 weeks in total. Being in the direct sun was uncomfortable so no surfy while u going thru it. My derm told me to get one last session in before I started the efudex. After that I just covereved up with hat/neck buff and went fishing to get my mind off of not surfing. Anyway, went to the derm last week for my usual 6mo check up and they said next time I have to do it there is a new/alternative product out (didn't say the name) that is better. Said only have to apply for 2days and the redness only lasts 2 weeks. Might check into that one to get you back in the water faster.  Hope that helps some and best of luck.

Last year my dermotologist recommended it for my forehead and some on my nose.   The forehead I just wore a hood and there were no issues.  On nose I slathered on the sunscreen and it was OK.

Thanks for the input guys.

My thinking is that there is no rush to do this,

probability of AKs becoming cancerous is a pretty low so

I may postpone this until the summer flat spell.

No sense missing spring...

There's another gel out called Picato. I was prescribed it, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. It is a three day treatment rather than the 2 week efudex. Give that a try, if you're lucky enough and your ins covers it, if not it's $800. EDIT: Also look into Photodynamic therapy. I did that as an alternative to efudex/picato. They blast your face with uv light after they put levulon(sp) chemical on to draw out the skin cancer. My turn around time with that procedure was seven days.
