Just got home from seeing Prometheus in IMAX 3D.

First, the story is very confusing and doesn't make sense. Its a mixture of the stomach infesting alien, and some super human life form mixed in a Space Sci-Fi. Surely there will be a sequel to help answer a lot of questions on why?

Typical story of Super rich guy trying to extend his life and finance a space exploration of a mish-mash of conflicting characters and stuck aboard a space ship for a couple years. They travel to a distant planet and discover alien spaceship underground that is manned by a super human lifeform.

I guess it tackles the question on why humans are on Earth and it seems to insinuate that these super humans planted their dna seed pre-life Earth and came back and visited it through the eons. Then in 2093 humans have tackled long distance space travel to go find God, or what they called The Creator.

Story line was one big WTF. I'm little dissipointed in that regard, but I think the movie makers felt they had to put in more digital special effects and action scenes versus plot development.

With that said, if you can suspend your reality belief system, the movie is very entertaining. The special effects are awesome and this is a made for IMAX 3D movie. I was amazed of the quality of the 3D effects.

The acting was also really good. I didn't recognize any of the actors but my wife seemed to know all of them as she is a movie goer and I'm not. Good cast of characters.

Soundtrack was pretty good. Lots of space sounding music that builds up tension on the scenes that were pretty intense.

So, Storyline Fail, but special effects and acting top notch.

Never heard of her, but she was very beautiful in the movie. She played a tough and stern CEO of the mission to planet X. I didn't understand what her goals were. If it was for the company or self-interest. She got killed at the end so I guess she won't be in the sequel unfortunatelyl. I asked my wife who she was as I was impressed with her looks and acting. She told me all the movies she has been in and coming up.

Google found this review that I thought was spot on:

"All one needs to know to understand Prometheus and honor Alien is that women can be tough fighters. That the characters with the goofiest accents get killed first. That nothing beats a really primo close-up of a gooey ET creature just before it goes berserk. And that, in the great tradition of the best sci-fi films, space would be a lot more boring without intrepid human idiots who touch stuff even when told ''Don't touch that!'' God bless them"

LBLarry, yes, she told me that on the way home. Someone that beautiful to play someone so ugly as Wuornos deserves an award!

I thought the storyline wss pretty clear but what I realized within the first 5 minutes was that it was a sharkjumper out the gate due to the cliche character develpment (like the 24 year old calvin klein underwear model looking "archaeologist/scientist" who for some reason likes to bully a robot and has dialogue right out of a Vin Diesel movie.. or the obligatory naysaying pessimistic angry contract worker guy who is supposed to be a geologist ..again a "scientist" but instead talks and acts like a guy out of a Vin Diesel movie)

It could have been a strong film had they not dumbed it down to a 6th grade level with the annoying plot-filling dialogue (hey can you hand me that scanner that reads the carbon date of ancient artifacts doctor?)

Oh well.. another Hollywood turd.

Save your money, wait for it to go to Redbox and watch Solaris instead (better yet get the Russian version as well)

Even as a big "Alien" fan, I thought the film was also confusing, and I had to try and explain things to my wife at the end (as did a few others were doing in the theather)

Spoiler alert!

One major faux pas I saw that they failed to explain was: In Alien, the humanoid creature was still in the chair (dead with a hole in his chest) when the crew was exploring the ship... but in this movie, the "last" humanoid creature died in a different place.

Is that a big "Oops" ? or what?

is this movie supposed to be a prequel to the Alien movies or just a coincidence?  Is Planet X Nibiru? Is Charlize nekkid?

The one they found in Alien was a different ship- likely a different planet

To prepare for the movie I watched all four of the previous Alien Blurays. I have been
a fan of Noomi Rapace since watching the "Girl w/ Dragon Tatoo" series on Roku.

What struck me immediately was the cinematic beauty of the areal scenes in the intro.
If you had no background in Alien story lines it would seem confusing. Not the best
film that I have seen but for a sci-fy buff it was a fine, big budget, offering.

hodad, did you see it in IMAX 3d? I was impressed with it on the big screen and the 3d really makes you feel like you are in outerspace. So, like mentioned, storyline not that good, but, cinematogaphry is great. Acting pretty good to. So, doubt it will win movie of the year, but will probably pick something up in the special effects department.

Nah, I stay away from 3D (hate the glasses) and I'm not sure where the closest IMAX
is. Saw it at the Oaks on the first day. The whole color pallet was lighter and went for
a "clean" modern instead of the grungy look of the Alien series.

As for Charleze..... one of my favorites, eye candy all the way. She was in "Italian Job"
with all the little Mini Coopers running around. Devil's Advocate was one of her early
films as well as the golf movie..... The Legend of Bagger Vance. Nice little South African
girl.

Merritt Sq. Mall has Imax 3d. Plus, no one goes to that mall so it is never crowded. The glasses aren't that bad. It makes a huge difference in my opinion. It really adds depth...(I'm giving myself a duh on this one, duh, its 3d, it suppose to add depth).
