Not taking any sides here. I don't know what happened that night. If he killed the kid in self defense, then he is legally protected by our laws. But, if he was just looking for a situation and to shoot someone, then he ought to be prosecuted.

BUT my question is, is it legal for the Black Panthers to announce a reward for capturing someone illegally? They have publicly put a $10k bounty on him. I mean, the guy doesn't have an arrest warrant out, yet? Wouldn't that be kidnapping? I would think he would be allowed to defend himself then.

What do you think about this picture circulating the internet?

I'm pretty sure the bounty is illegal.

The picture of Martin looking thuggy doesn't help Zimmerman much in my opinion.  Maybe pants on the ground and the middle finger is enough to make Tahoe shit his diaper but look how skinny Martin is?  A bird chest, a bag of skittles, and an iced tea justified deadly force?  I see the right wing making a big deal out of the fact that Martin was 6'3" and thus dangerous, but in that pic where he isn't wearing a shirt he is absolutely scrawny.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police.

Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

If this is true then Zimmerman is justified.

But explain to me why this kid would attack Zimmerman without provocation?  I'm not seeing a motive here.

It's OK for private groups to provide financial rewards for informants and such, leading to convictions.  The New Black Panther thing looks totally illegal, at least if someone shows up with Zimmeman wrapped up in duct tape like a mummy.

Orlando Sentinel has Zimmerman's version.

From the Examiner article:

The media also fills their articles with outdated baby-faced pictures of Trayvon. Very few include that he was a towering 6'2” football player
He weighed 140lbs.  Any particular reason why your super factual unbiased article excluded that fact while they were painting their picture of the Menace from Miami?

That second article from Charleston starts with some reference to gang-bangers in Chicago?   I'm guessing that the article could have a bit of a slant!

Z: "Hey, I am with the neighborhood watch. Who are you and what are you dong here?"

M: "Thats none of your business"

Z: "Yeah, it is my business. It is my duty to report suspicious activity. So who are you?"

M: "I said thats none of your business. I'm not telling you anything"

Z: "Well I called the cops..."

M: "You called the cops on me? F*** off I am leaving."

--later--

M: "I said stop following me!"

Z: "I am going to keep following you until the police get here."

M: "No you aren't."

Scuffle ensues. Zimmerman is on the ground getting pummeled by someone younger and stronger than him, so discharges his firearm into the boys chest.

Were you there? Its not uncalled for a testosterone filled young male to start shit with other people or go on the offensive first.

It's hard to develop a knowledgeable opinion on this whole thing. One thing is for sure is the kid is dead and the other dude's life will be spent either in jail or either in some small out of country town looking over his shoulder. The whole situation is sad and now we will watch both sides pluck "facts" out of witnesses and police reports to support their platform. If the kid attacked him and was banging his head against the ground what would you do? On the same note if the police were already called and they said not to follow him what are you doing confronting someone when especially if your carrying. As far as the bounty goes, ask Sean Peyton and the Saints how that worked out. LOL! Sorry couldn't resist.

Jady, the police didnt say not to follow. A civiliian with no law enforcement powers did. They are no more an authority than a random person on the internet is.

Why in that scenario is Zimmerman out of his car?

Zimmerman is on the ground getting pummeled by someone younger and stronger than him,

The kid weighs 140lbs right?

Were you there? Its not uncalled for a testosterone filled young male to start shit with other people or go on the offensive first.

Zimmerman started shit when he got out of his car.  If I'm walking somewhere at night and someone gets out of their car and comes after me and they haven't got a badge it is fight or flight time.

So while we are playing the "nobody was there let's do hypotheticals" game:

How about this:

Z: "Hey, I am with the neighborhood watch. Who are you and what are you dong here?"

M: "Thats none of your business"

Z: "Yeah, it is my business. It is my duty to report suspicious activity. So who are you?"

M: "I said thats none of your business. I'm not telling you anything"

Z: "Well I called the cops..."

M: "You called the cops on me? F*** off I am leaving."

(M turns to walk away)

Z: Hey I'm talking to you (grabs M's shoulder as if to spin him around)

M having been assaulted then defends himself.

Either way:  The man with the gun and no authority confronted a man without a gun (whether the confrontation was merely verbal) and the man without the gun ended up shot.

Zimmerman was also a civilian with no law enforcement powers.  That means lay back and wait once you've made the call.  You've got the hypothetical scenario, what part of that scenario drew Zimmerman out of his car?

This whole situation is sounding more and more like a lot of people doing dumb things.. like Barney Fife taking a policeman's job for his own, the possibility that the kid decided to get aggro, and the freakin black panthers who are doing absolutely noone any favors. Those guys need to sit down and shut up and let the facts come in.

Looks like this may be the new generation's OJ case.

To satisfy my curiosity, what law dictates that a man has to stay in his vehicle when he sees someone suspicious roaming his neighborhood? Hey Scombrid, are you sure on the kid's weight? Media report today said he weighs closer to 200lbs. Does anyone know anything outside of the fact that he was a drug user and had a problem with authority?
