Damn it man I get away from those bozos! I'm paying $50 right now for their service that is constantly buffering or completely cutting out. Thanks for the response Karma.

Honestly any problems you have in Satellite with Brighthouse are likely your feed from the pole or something internal to your setup. I can get pretty far above the 'line speed'.

I do OK as long as my boys aren't both on a "Call of Duty" mission at the same time from different machines upstairs.

Brighthouse is currently running a special for their 20Mbps internet service (for internet only) at $45 a month for 12 months (no contract required). They are also doing $30 a month for 3 months for their 10Mbps service. Their low-end 750Kbps service is not currently on any specials and is $35 per month. That's what I was on but took advantage of the 20Mbps for only $10 more per month. It has definitely been worth it as I have been working more from home and can now watch streaming HD video instead of constantly buffering for even stuff at 480P!

I don't know if I'll ever choose to use AT&T DSL again because of the dishonesty (or unintentional incompetence) I've received from their sales people in the past (I always call at least 3 times and ask the same questions but never get agreement on the answers). Brighthouse service has been flaky at times, but not too often overall, and I like being able to cancel at any time with no penalty.

Gapehouse keeps raising my monthly...Now it's $53 for standard!!!! Now they've invoked a clever $2 a month modem fee. F these A-holes!

Any other options out there?

ATT U-verse? 49.95 for 12 mos for 24 Mbps... Any experience?

They had nice promotional deals, but because I've been with them since 2005, I don't qualify. Perhaps I should cancel my service and rejoin later when I qualify for the reasonable prices. BS.

The performance complaints here are not really the provider's fault (maybe other than misleading advertising). If you do not want to rent the modem, I'd recommend this one instead. Karma just call and threaten to cancel unless they give you the lower rate. Works every year for me, I've been told "ok just this one time" more than once.

Personally I would never choose AT&T for DSL here locally. It's not that I particularly like the options we have but their uptime and speed pale in comparison to BH business and residential.

O2, yeah, I pulled that move...she tried different things, but was ultimately unsuccessful at thinking outside the box. maybe I should either try a different attendant or ask for a manager.

Depends. Typically if they have to "roll a truck" it's $100 minimum. I got into it with them one time about that since the guy refused to crawl through my attic. I got up there with my drill and RG6 with him helping, they tried to charge me $135 for the call. Fought it out with them until I only paid $35 for the call.

So uh, def don't get this model, seems intermittently compatible with BH and Comcast. I swapped it for a Surfboard SB6121 and it works great. Will post back the results of my firewall test soon.
