During the first two weeks of operation, 16 traffic cameras racked up more than $9 million in fines ( taken from the article) Just a heads up for your next trip, a total of 450 traffic cameras will be installed in upcoming years. Check the comment after the story. Tico Times

Im starting to question where I will surf this summer.  Im getting a little tired of being gouged on the plane for airfare and boards, being hit with the additional insurance on the rentacar, the high price of fuel, the higher price of lodgings, the higher price of food, the exit fee and the board fees on the way home.

Nica.

Have they changed the traffic signs in CR?  The red octagonal one used to mean honk the horn and step on the gas.

Dont punish the people that depend on tourist dollars because its government doesnt care if it is pushing tourists away.

actualy the opposite is taking place.that is one of the main reasons why the fines are changing as well.the country and its government are making a huge effort to increase tourism again.the cameras are an effort to try and organize the drivers and eliminate shitty drivers and ILLEGAL drivers.not the tourists with rental cars.also people that have been coming down here for years think its a free for all as well after living in the states they come down here and drive like idiots because the LOCALS do.more deaths have occured latley due to bad driving than ever.stick with the bus and hired professional respectable drivers.or at least come down here and drive with respect until you get out to the beaches and then destroy your rental and be an idiot.also the government just spent 20$ million on new advertisement in the us and europe that you will soon be seing on your tv in florida or wherever you are in gringolandia during your football games and other prime time events.traffic cameras and high fines for bad driving yes are uncomfortable but drive with respect and within the rules and enjoy your trip.hardly imagin traffic cameras are a downer for tourism!!!!more of a downer when people start dieng on vacation because of traffic accidents drinking and driving and driving like idiots

yeah were all guilty at some point of that gental rental deal!!! ha ha.now that i have kids here and run a tour business i see it from a whole different standpoint.i had a driver who is one of my best friends and godfather of one of my kids down here who all my clients were kissing the ground when they got to my house.not cool!!the dude is a typical tico driver.his wife divorced him and took the car.probably the best thing that could have happend.for him and everyone else on the road.thats 1 down and about 500000 to go.hahaha
