Pineda Causeway will have bike lanes by March
Announcement thrills supporters, ends years of debate on project

By March, a new $862,000 retrofit project will open the Pineda Causeway to bicycle traffic - on a legal basis.

Design work should wrap up next month on the Florida Department of Transportation's long-debated pedal-friendly undertaking, which will create bike lanes between U.S. 1 and State Road A1A on a two-year trial basis.

Crews will beef up guardrails, re-stripe pavement and replace grated drainage inlets, lest a bicyclist's tire slip inside.

"I'm glad I'm sitting down. I'll believe it when I see it," Steve Babb, a project supporter and sales manager at Bob's Bicycle Shop in Indian Harbour Beach, remarked when told of the announcement.

Hey LBLarry,

Lost Hares Society Hash Group. One of the Hashers has a house in Keenansville and he set up the ride. Bad azz ! Saw soo much wildlife. Amazing what is out there. There were a bunch of Airboaters in the middle of BFE that were stunned to see us out there. Cheered us on. The last stretch they call the 11 mile road. I thought I was going to die due to the heat. Good times, good ride, good people. http://losth3.bikehash.com/

yea .... that's a cool vid. If only we had the topography and soil type(s) that they have!

Look for more wooden features at Santos in the somewhat near future.

LBLarry..

Rode the Fruit Tails in Palm Bay. I think they will be completely shut down soon. So sad. I really hope evertyone in this locale has a chance to ride this trail. The Water Distric is pushing hard to prevent anyone from riding there.

They keep clearing trail.

On On

Those trails have always been bandit trails .... they have had a dedicated crew rebuilding them every time the land manager bulldozed them. But ultimately the land manager will prevail and people will prob get arrested for trespassing.

What mtn bikers in E. Centro Fla need to do is form an IMBA/SORBA Chapter (International Mountian Biking Assoc. / Southern Off Road Biking Assoc.) and work with a public entity to build some good LEGAL mtn bike trails. Over the last decade more and more public entities nationwide (local, municipal, state & federal gov's & agency's) are seeing the value of allowing organized groups to build & maintain mtn bike trails. In Fla alone I can think of: 2 new trails in Volusia Co. 2 new trails in Flagler Co. 1 new in St. Johns Co. 1 new and significant improvements in Hanna in Duval Co. and 1 OUTSTANDING new trail in Leon Co. all built recently that would not have been possible without a legitimate mtn biking assoc. being involved.

If anyone wants to step up (VADER!! ) drop me a msg & I will put you in contact with the right people at IMBA/SORBA.

I'm going on vaction in Seattle in 3 weeks.

I was thinking about spending a day or two at the Whistler mountain biking course.

Has anyone been?

Looks like they have there runs labled similiar to ski run with greens, blues and blacks for difficulty.

Did a nice ride today after some layover of no biking. Cocoa village down Riverside drive to US-1 and back. Early Sat. morn so no traffic other than other bikers.

Olives and Grapes vinegar store. Pretty cool place. Get to taste before buying...

My new hitch bike rack. Much easier and safer:

Fish with fresh mango salsa and the balsamic vinegar added just bought. Chased down w/Sierra Nevada Pale Ale...Yummy...On, On...
