That pic of Vader is actually of the landing coming down off the 30' ramp / jump .... those freeride guys don't play!
Glad to hear you are biking daily CentroDavo .... I have been doing more trail work and OMBA volunteering than riding lately .... I really need to bring that back into line!! ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. Here is a killer perspective on the Vortex section at Santos!

LOL...you are right. 2ndlight is within 7 minutes for me. Santos, two hours...hmmm... and just the reverse for B3K & I. Here is a thought ..... several of the new IMBA/SORBA chapters in N. Fla (Jax, Flagler) have been able to VASTLY improve some of the existing trails (Hanna (Jax Bch), Graham Swamp(Flagler Co.) and start new ones (Tillie Flower Park (Jax), Nocatee (W. St Johns Co.), Mala Compra (Flagler Co.) .... perhaps a chapter in the E. Centro Fla area is warranted. Hell Orlando could use one as well. While the value to a well established club (OMBA, SWAMP) is not nearly as great or needed. IMBA/SORBA can be of tremendous value to a struggling club or to establish one. Just a thought. BTW ... their is also some newer and very, very nice trails at Chuck Lennon Park in DeLeon Spgs which is just north of Deland. Excellent flow with a lot of nicely bermed corners. Mostly yellow/blue trails with some additional reddish technical features (with by passes to avoid if you want). Done by an independent group, but they have done great work. They did get some help from the IMBA Trail Solutions group on layout and proper trail construction / sustainability techniques. Does tend to get muddy after a rain so look for their fb page if you want current riding info. ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. like I have the perfect solution -- ,are you feeling it ? Exchange program! we stay at each others places for 1 weekend every 2 weeks. Or something like that. Couch surfing, but only to 1 destination! Trade ya Santos for Da Lite!

Biked around 20 miles around Amelia Island today. Half of that was against 40mph winds with T.S. Beryl right off the coast. I was expecting good surf, but it looks like the favorable winds were down south. Missed the good stuff, but oh well, got commitments, Good day though. Good biking. Biking is the best way to see a place...
Surf was big and blown out with NNW winds around 40mph. People were making it a beach day regardless... Ft.Clinch...home of some great mountain bike trails, but we bypassed it today. Not in shape for it and the wife wanted to do the streets instead. Amelia Island Lighthouse: North end of island: ------------------------- surf forecast |

Thanks it was another great ride! Some more photos. I'm constantly taking photos as I ride. What a great way to do two hobbies, er 5 at the same time. Photography and Biking...and, um, historic tours, and of course, beer drinking, and eating.... !!! er, that is only 4. 5th hobby...use your imagination... LOL.
I have some more photos that I'm going through. Amelia Island and Fernandina is a pretty cool place. I find that biking an area and you can really get to know a place better. The area was packed with Memorial day weekend tourist. Mostly from Georgia. The weather really didn't hamper us too much. We got the biking in early morning and by the afternoon we were chased by the first feeder band from Beryl. Got a little bit wet but it felt good after the long hot ride. I think many Georgians claim residence in Amelia to avoid the State Tax. It is a very wealthy island. Ritz Carlton hotel is on the beach here along with many 2nd homes, etc. I'm sure it has always been a wealthy island. It has the St.Mary's rivermouth to the North of it and the St.Johns to the South of it (South of the Talbot Islands). It has marshy lagoon and has some elevation to it. Lots of history here, written and unspoken! ------------------------- surf forecast |

Actually Fernandina was founded as a fishing (shrimping mostly) and mill town. That ITT Rayonier mill on the river just to the south of "downtown" is one of the nastiest I have ever been in ... and I have been in dozens and dozens of papermills. Long before the upper crust found Amelia Island ... it was home to American Beach. One of the very first "Negro" beaches on the east coast. Now Fernandina is an odd mix of ol school NE Fla redneck and the high dollar Amelia crowd.
I strongly considered moving to "Dina" when I moved up that way 20+ years ago .... then I spent some time just off that salt marsh area at sundown ... and the "no-see-ums" damn near killed me!!! ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. Did this ride Saturday. It was only miles off road "KENANSVILLE RIDE and CAMPOUT Ride will start at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 26 from the back of Fired Up Pizza on Malabar Road. The ride will be approximately 46 miles over the levees from Three Forks Marsh to the Stick Marsh and then the Kenansville grade area. Transportation will be available at the start to take your camping gear, extra clothes, coolers, etc. to Kenansville. We’ll have plenty of food for dinner, but please provide your own beer, wine, or whatever you want to drink. If you care to bring chips and dips or some kind of appetizer to share, that would be great. We’ll have spicy pulled pork, black beans, barbecue pork, cole slaw, potato salad and dessert. There will be coffee and sweet rolls for breakfast. Return transportation will be limited, so if you don’t care to ride the 46 miles back, please make arrangements for someone to come and get you. Or….we will be going out on Friday and you are welcome to follow along in your vehicle and leave it and ride back with us. We’ll be leaving about 5:30 or 6:00". ------------------------- It's not where you've gone that's important.... |
