What's the best wax to use right here right now? My instructor said I should scrape the Sex Wax off of my board and put on warm water Sticky Bumps. What do y'all think?

sex wax is good for basecoat but sucks for top. i like terra wax the best for top. sticky bumps sucks, it hardens up and loses its stickiness after an hour or so in the water.

I use stickybumps warm water wax year `round with excellent results. I even save the small pieces and melt them down in a plastic tub in my microwave once a year to make one big bar.

I always wax my board inside in the A/C before hitting the beach too. I never leave my board wax up on the beach in the sun unless I am ready to strip.

That brings up a question- when/how often, do you strip?

Maybe once every six months, but if I leave my board in the sun the wax will start releasing from the board and come off in chunks in the water. This forces a stipping and rewax.

I do live across from 16th and never need to rack my board to the beach. I wax, then hit the water, then come back home when done surfing. I would imagine any exposure to the sun would change these variables and possibly the best wax to use as well.

Cool. Exactly what I was looking for.. I also live across the street from the beach and typically surf right there, so the boards never sit in the sun. I'd guess I'm at six - nine months too.

lolipopalip- I use the same wax setup as you...

I wonder about something. When I was in FL I used Sticky Bumps and it worked pretty well however I did usually have to wax up for every session. I never thought about it until I moved to HI and started surfing here. I still use Sticky Bumps but for some reason it seems to last and last and last. I usually get 5 or 6 sessions before I have to do any touch up. It adheres to the board really well and it doesn't come off and stays sticky. The only thing I can think of is the silt in the water in Florida must work to break it free from the board. I remember often having chunks of wax just pop off the board. Anyway, just an observation to throw into the mix.

Definitely something to consider, however, I've only noticed that phenomon when I'd had the board in/on the car... read: exposed to the heat for some period of time.

When I simply cross the street and paddle right out, I never have the wax chunking issue.
