Check out:

http://www.floridasoceansplate.org/

It is an effort to get a custom florida license plate that goes to help Florida's beaches and oceans.

And it looks pretty cool too.

Why can't the Surfrider Foundation get a tag going and let the proceeds go them??? Never heard of Hubbs, but would support a Surfrider plate like the one shown on the forum in the past. Come on Greg get a site going for a Surfrider Foundation tag!!! until then I'll keep my turtle tag.

Hey I totally agree with a Surfrider tag, I'd rather have that.

Hubbs is affiliated with Sea World. It should have info on the site.

Just thought I'd pass it on.

Havana, weren't you going to make it your mission to get a surfers license plate made?

I think Curbs was the one that did the artwork on the design. I can't find the original thread because it was on the old 2ndlight. But I think you had to raise $60,000 and a certain number of signatures to get a plate started.

True Skeeter, but w/ Surfrider Foundation there is a connection for donations so therefore a good reason. With Greg Gordon working with the Brevard Surfrider, There is the potential, as he is a great guy and the org could easily set up the site and get the money from Surfrider with an expected/ calculated pay back and then future donations.

I got enough missions right now!!

I'm not sure they'll go for it. First thing is the $60,000 start up cost, to the Surfrider Foundation $60,000 is a ton of money that they could put to better use than a license plate. Plus, I believe there's been some misuse of the funds that some license plates generate, ie. funds not going to the people who set the plate up. i just think that Surfrider wouldn't gamble on such an idea, but I hope they prove me wrong. I'll be more than happy to turn in my snook plate for a surfer plate.

I have been wondering when they would put out an ocean plate, great idea, I signed it. do the profits from the plates help pay for ways to keep our oceans clean?

Sorry to bring in some sour notes - but - Florida already has something like 57 "specialty" license plates. You'd be hard pressed to convince me we need another one no matter what the cause. Maybe we could just convince the state to provide us with a tag number and we can register and make up our own plates -

Just curious: Does any state have more specialty plates than Florida?

Guerrilla warfare, small victory - I have been known to put a small piece of electrical tape over the second word on "Choose" tags I pass in parking lots. If you have one of those tags, better check. I get around.

Palm Beach County Chapter of Surfrider has been looking at this very issue. Yes the stumbling block is putting up $50K to get the ball rolling. Most of the Florida Chapters don't have that kind of coin to front for the project.

We do have a call to artists out to design a plate, however, so if you got an idea let us know!

I have this strange vision of forumer's walking around - 1/2 putting tape on, 1/2 taking tape off.

I can't say who's right - Just choose for yourself.
