Ok guys, I know there are a few different ways to post a picture from your computer, but here’s the one I found works the best.
First, when posting pictures, keep in mind file sizes. Keep the file size as small as possible (under 100k) and also keep the physical size small too. Try to keep the width smaller than the forum width. (It sucks to scroll sideways to see the whole picture.) Find a cheap (or free) image editor and use it. Most of the problems of posting a pic have come from using the wrong path. When you upload a file to the 2nd Light server, it goes to a directory called: http://www.2ndlight.com/forum42ndlight/attachments/ This is the path you should use to post your pic!!! To post a picture from your Computer: Overview: 1) Upload a picture to the 2nd Light Server. 2) Use the Picture Icon from the Reply window 3) Type the path: http://www.2ndlight.com/forum42ndlight/attachments/ 4) Add your file name at the end of the path Step-By-Step: 1) From the Reply window, use the “Attach File(s)” button. This will open an "Upload Box" window. 2) Browse for the file on your computer, then Click “Upload File” 3) Note the name of your file listed, then return to the Reply window. 4) From the Reply window, Click the Picture Icon. 5) This should open a Prompt Box like this: 6) Now we need to type the PATH to our file in the Prompt Box. When we uploaded our picture, it went in a folder on 2nd Light called “Attachments” The path to this folder is: http://www.2ndlight.com/forum42ndlight/attachments/ NOTE: Copy and Save this path for future reference!!! 7) Now type that path in the prompt box. 8) Then add the name of your file at the end, and click “OK” 9) The code will automatically be put into your Reply: ------------------------- I'm a man who only owns two suits...my birthday suit and a wetsuit. |

I also would like to add the shortcuts for cut-n-paste. You can right click a path to cut-n-paste, but the keyboard shortcuts are
CNTL-C to Cut CNTL-V to paste A little faster if you are a typist. |

Great post. I'd like to add my thoughts on Image size.
JJay, you said add the height and width constraints, but I disagree there. Those limit what the browser shows, but do nothing for image size. I've seen 1 meg images that are forced to that size, they take forever to load. The image size needs to be done to the original images before uploading. For optimal image size, you want 72 dpi (or ppi, sometimes lpi - dots, pixels, lines per inch). I find images about 7 inches on the long side are about right for viewing, but that's personal taste. 7 inches is big enough to see most detail with images that aren't too big. If you work in pixels, here's the conversion. Inches x resolution = pixels. so, 7 inches x 72 dpi is 504 pixels. (sorry for the training seminar, I guess). If you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Image/image size, then enter 72 dpi for resolution, then your chosen size. (For me, 7 inches) Then, do file/save as choose jpg format Now you come to image quality. a value of 6 or 7 works about right. More than that is wasted, less tends to start degrading the image. Other editors have similar features by different names, but they do about the same thing. Last note. AOL users. AOL by default compresses all images that go through their system to save bandwidth. This corrupts the images, so if you've ever seen distorted images that noone else has a problem with, well there you go. Here's the instructions: Disabling Compressed Graphics in AOL Version 9.0 for the Windows Platform Launch AOL. Click on Settings. The AOL Settings dialog window will appear. Click on Internet Properties. The AOL Internet Properties dialog window will appear. Click the AOL Browser tab. Make sure that Never compress graphics is enabled. Well, that's my input. Hope it helps and didn't confuse too many. Andy |
