Does anyone know good accommodations for a friend and his wife and 20 yr old daughter to surf Matapalo area? Avg surfers so the main peak is not their thing. But chest high rights are.

Does it break in March, I know Pavones needs more of the Southern juice.

Maybe Greg, the CR expert, I cold send this guy your way for some info.

thanks!

The Agua Luna in Puerto Jimenez. Down the street from Matapalo is Lapa Rios. Tierra de Milagro is right in front but it's full of Yogis. And a longer ride to Carate. Carate is sweet. The Look Out Inn is there. I like Carate because Matapalo hates me.

Thanks for the mention. I stayed at a nice rental house about 100 steps for Cabo Matapalo - the main point. Matapalo Costa Rica Rental House

It wasn't always big out back but nice to check it first before deciding where else to go. It's about a 4 minute drive to the other breaks, or a 15-20 minute walk. The owner is Andy and the price is about $150/night depending on the season. Please let me help with reservations as that is how I get paid. It doesn't cost you anything extra.

Another spot I like down there is Casa Bambo which is closer to Backwash. Pan Dulce is only another 200 meters north of there.

We went about 10 years ago and stayed at Encanta La Vida. Nice family place with friendly owner who took care of us. Could walk to all the breaks. Slept in tree houses with the monkeys all around.

I am doing great! Spending most of the year in Costa Rica, selling surf trips and writing surf reports. If you are down near Dominical, let's meet up for a surf. You can also follow my antics on Instagram - @crsurf

The Osa peninsula is such a great place. I've been there a bunch of times in the 90s. Camping right on the point. Probably can't do that any more.

Have fun. Report back.

Such a cool place, saw more monkeys there than anywhere else in Central America. Backwash and pan dulce are super fun, also a mellow beach break in the area with a nice sandbar by the rivermouth during rainy season. If it's big there's another point further down too..but you'll need to meet a local to surf it. Anyone know if the road from that little town is paved now?

The road to Puerto Jimenez is paved, but not from there to Matapalo. However, it has been grated and is well maintained almost all the way to Pan Dulce. Yes Dave, you can still camp at the point. And still a LOT of monkeys and red macaws.

SHHHHH, stop talking about the Osa Pen. It's like Playa Linda, it sucks.... But I do love Casa Bamboo and will be there in April, was there over Thanksgiving and was there last March. I've given up on Guanacaste, too many people and who can beat three breaks with Pan Dulce a great old man right point. But its all rocks!! don't go, it sucks haha

I go to Nosara, and the amount of surf schools and Yogis there have tripled in the last couple years.
