He's ridden big pipe so I wonder why he said he doesn't ride big waves, they scare him?

What most people here consider "BIG" probably isnt "Big" to him anyway.... board looks fun but also looks like theyre trying to grab some of those board sales from the Lost "RNF retro " (I got one of those and love it)

That style is so natural and flowing. He's one of the true greats. How about that van?

I watched this vid twice, not just for how fun that board looks; Rob's commentary is enjoyably meandering, unpretentious, and I love the quiet sea noises in the background. Makes ya just wanna hang out by the van and go slide a few.

Rob could ride aToilet seat and make you think it was the best board ever designed. Yes he is that good. He is also an excellent Shaper. Been working his craft for many years now. Learned from some of the best,of course Al Merrick had a big influence, but other very notable San Diego Shapers also gave their hard earned knowage to Rob. He is more then some guy pushing buttons on the computer. He has learned and earned respect. pays tribute to the past while working to move forward. He seems to be focused on Fish. It's a good fit for him. His latest The Seaside pays homage to the reef at Seaside. A local break with a long history. That board looks like a winner. I'm not really into imported boards lots of excellent Board Builders out there. There was an old trailer park there. On big swells with a high tide the place flooded. All dirt roads with big nasty potholes. The peak is big and fat. Made for a really fun drop. Lefts were usally better then the right. Seaside had it's crew like Cardiff reef had it's crew and Swamies had it's crew. Every time I think about North San Diego County in the 1970s I know that we had it so good.

Agree. North County is a great surfing area. Lived There in the late 70's early 80's. Dougie Silva was a grom. Didn't realize back the how sharkie that area is. Used to sit on the outside boil at Seaside on foggy mornings with Hodgie never thinking of Mr. Whitey. Now IDK

Has anyone else heard the stories about how certain west coast shapers (cough cough Merrick) just happened to be next to certain east coast shapers at the expo (Cough cough Birch) and inspiration translated into imitation?
