Mark Rubio's bill will make daylight savings time permanent. No falling back time in November more or less eliminating the chance to dp before work November through May. The FL legislature approved it but the US Congress has to vote to change the law before it can be implemented. If you value Winter dp before work or have kids that will be going to school in much darker conditions contact your congressman to not approve the act.

I prefer to have time in the evening to surf, mow the yard, play outside with the kids and take care of house upkeep. Getting home from work in the dark 6 months a year sucks.

I think that we should be on standard time all year.

I'm with your foam ball.
Let's give this more sunshine after work thing a turn. Plus I'm Lucy enough to have flexible hours so early dp can be adjusted. One thing I thought of is: how will this affect ET timing. Will there now be a FL time apart from ET listed on television programming? ------------------------- I type on fone 99% of time. Let the typos slyde. Thanks |

I'm with Scombrid.
Time is time. Sunset and sunrise do actually change times as the earth moves We should roll with that reality, not tweak our measurement of it. ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill |

When the weather finally starts getting nice around December the days will still be barely more than 10 hours long irrespective of there being some stupid "sunshine protection act".

I don't believe this is even on the radar of Congress right now. Going to be another year at least. As proposed if you took a flight to Atlanta you would have to change your watch. This needs to be rewritten to include the whole East Coast. I am fan of the longer days.

Um, set the "time" so that 6AM coincides with sunrise on the equinox and adjust "schedules" for human convenience? (just sayin')

Um, set the "time" so that 6AM coincides with sunrise on the equinox and adjust "schedules" for human convenience? (just sayin') That would be a great option. Permanent DST is about the worse IMO. Typically morning conditions are best for surf with the calmer winds which is why I really hate this SPA. ------------------------- Replace turf grass with native plants that don't need irrigation and synthetic fertilizers or chemicals that can go into our waterways and ocean |

Foamball I cant agree more. "sunshine protection act" my ass. The working mans curse. Get off work at 5pm to stare at the ocean for 35 minutes before I cant see my hand 2 inches in front of me...
Or get off work at 5pm surf till 8:30pm get out of the water and still somehow be able to see my hand 2 inches in front of me.
I don't have children of my own but I have two nieces and I know for a fact they would prefer to stand at a bus stop in the dark at 6:30am then not be able to go to the beach after school homework and chores are finished because its pitch dark at 6:30pm. Its common sense really. The only people that want the "sunshine protection act" are retired folks or they're surfers that work the night shift and aren't alcoholics. Id love to dawn patrol every morning glassy clean and no one out but lets be real. 90 percent of us work during the day and when we get off work we want to play.. Not in the dark

waterlizard, I think the Sunshine Protection Act will keep the summer clock in place so you have more daylight towards the evening once you bug out work
