Hey guys, I'm looking for recommendations on 2+1 setups for my longboard (9' x 22.78" x 2.9" - futures fins side boxes). It's a HP LB shape although I've been surfing it with a 9" True Ames Squirrel Tail fin exclusively for the past 2 years. I want to surf it more like the HP longboard it's designed to be. I'm in South Florida, so I'm surfing usually surfing short and mushy waves. It's been tough finding any reviews or information that isn't pure marketing for 2+1 setups. Unfortunately, I'm at a phase in my life where experimentation isn't going to happen, so I'm really hoping for a few solid suggestions. (In my 20's, I surfed probably EVERY Futures, FCS, and Captain Fin thruster & quad set. But I'm in the water a lot less now and my "extra" cash is going to diapers & baby formula instead of fins!) Anybody recommend the Futures Hatchet 2+1 set? Any solid True Ames sets? What 2+1 are you riding in ankle high to waist high waves?

what do you want to do on the board? surf it like a shortboard, noseride, do spinners, be able to do full roundhouses and pump down the line? the fins will severely change the aspect of those desires.

I don't know about 2+1, but on my 9'0" that I've ridden in 2' to OH I have the true ames califormia classic and in my 6'10" egg a greenough 7A. both are great...

I have a Stu Sharpe Islands HP that's 2 1/4" thick, 9 ft, and I have a 7" cutaway with two standard side fins. This setup has worked well for me on the HPs for years. Allows some nice tight turns on the bigger days...and lots of drive down the line.

Comeon onebuck, everybody know what you're talking about is a "surfboard", not a "longboard". Ask Balsa Bill.
