Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has tried the new FCS Freedom leash? Does the new leash material seem as strong or stronger than a standard leash, and does it seem to tangle less like they claim? It sounds like a cool concept, but before I go and spend a little extra on this lease, I was wondering if anyone had any first hand testimonials about it.

Thanks

probably doesn't matter much around town , but it may last longer and be better for trips . for $20 extra bucks it should

Yeah, I'm not worried so much about our mediocre surf here. I am going to Nica in July and I would like to purchase a new leash before the trip and use my current leash as a backup. I have a few different leashes, but they are showing signs of age, and I want a brand new one for this trip. Just hoping that someone had tried one of the freedom leashes and could tell me whether it was life changing, or just a gimmick.

I like the comfort factor, sometimes it feels like you don't have a leash on.  However, age old issue, it still comes lose sometimes - I feel like the velcro technology (if there is such a thing) sucks for all leashes.   For the price they are charging, I thought that wouldn't be an issue on the new FCS leash, but it still is.

Thanks for the feedback Stillasurfer, that is what I was afraid of. I have a Channel Islands lease on one of my boards right now that is just over a year old, and the velcro sucks on it. I am not impressed. I was hoping this FCS leash was going to be worlds apart. I may try one of the Ocean and Earth leashes, as I have one of those on my old fun shape that must be at least 10+ years old now, and the velcro on it is better than the velcro on any of my other new leashes. Ocean and Earth is asking a lot for their leashes also, so I hope they are still of great quality.

If you are planning a trip to Nica in July , I would be more worried about the gun fire then swimming in for your gun if the leash pops . Place looks like a powder keg ready to explode , make good choices on this trip please .

July is still nearly 2 months away. Everything that I have read in the last day or so is saying that the president and the militarty are calling for peace and retracting the tax that has been put in place that sparked this mess. I have plenty of time to keep a close eye on the situation down there and make a final call. We are looking at options to go other places right now, just in case. But as I said before, still plenty of time until we go. I do apprectiate the concern. :-)

No experience with the FCS Freedom Leash, but the concept seems interesting. Not a real pain point for me to spend the extra cash for not much differentiation.

I've been really happy with the Crow Haley leashes I've had. Made in the USA by 1 guy in CA. They are a bit hard to find, but worth the extra effort.

+1 For Crow, that's where Ricky Carrolls leashes are from.

AnotherRide uses them as well, and if I remember correctly if the leash breaks they'll replace it.

I have Crow Haley leashes on my boards, surfed Hanalei and it held up just fine in overhead surf.

RioSirju, any idea where you can get RC's leashes locally?
