Love the new Saquarema contest site! In my opinion, this has been the best contest of the year so far. Firing set waves. Reeling Rights. Barrels. Big Airs. Heavy Turns. YEW!

Hahaaa! Those waves are straight up and down Brevard county on an onshore day pushing 2'-4' feet +.. Definitely takes away from the term "Dream Tour" imho..

John John was the nextgen guy who could supplant Ke11y's legacy, but that's not going to happen not now not ever. Ke11y had 3 world titles by age 23, 6 titles at 26.

It's not happening for John John. I was rooting for him to do well, but this just shows us all that no one will EVER repeat Ke11y's feat.

Colonel, please take a bow and honor the great one.

Nice air by Filipe, but consistent dominance will never again be achieved by any one individual like him in our lifetime.

In my feeble opinion I believe John John's boards this year are too thin. Nose is too thin and straight rockered, rails too knifey sharp and thin, over all not enough volume, and the maybe the outline has been tweeked from 2017, and it's not working. He keeps digging and pearling and his boards look too small, and it looks like he's grown out a little bit, maybe more than a little bit. I think he needs more foam overall, more foam in the nose with more rocker, or maybe go back to what he was using last year but with wide point pushed back just a tiny bit, and the ends of the nose and tail less foiled out, but that's my guess and I'm pretty ignorant. I don't believe his skill or performance has gone down.  Has anyone noticed or come to this conclusion?

That is interesting, in my quest for fast FL boards I went lower rocker, but missed it dearly and have now gone with similar ideas you outlined above, keep the rocker but added some foam.

I saw him ride a wave and said to myself he's on the wrong board. He needs a shape that will flow with the wave instead of fighting against it.
