Correct... either you paddled out at dawn on Tuesday or you didn’t catch Riley peaking with good swell angle and dead winds for ~2 hours.  A few on the head to get out, but massive perfect sheet glass walls that stood up as tall as I’ve ridden in FL and wrapped down the sandbars.  Real bottom turns on the Pyzel looking straight up at the DOH FACES.

The rest of the week was fun, but scraps around here anyway.

Tuesday morn, I just surfed an older skinny 6-3 Ft. Knox shortboard.  If I had a little more meat under me, I probably could've upped my wave count a little (lots of rips and water moving around) but it holds fine in juicy waves....

My next available "step-up" wouldve been serious overkill for anywhere aside from outside Palm Beach spots

yeah if you surfed after the peak of the swell you didn’t need a stepup, even when it was peaking you didn’t neeeed one but it sure did help me not have to make late drops and get destroyed, overhead to doh surf is big enough to where I’d rather be on a rounded pin with a little extra length to get in earlier.

My step up was my 6'0 lost v2 31L. Worked just fine.
At 6'3 170lbs around here my go to is usually shorter than 5'7. short and squat.

I've been riding my 7'0 Step-up thruster.
Approaching age 70 this summer, needed a lil extra volume as I'm a bit slower getting to my feet.

That's great! I hope I'm riding a "shortboard" at 70!

A 5'10" Birch Retro Fish (glass on twins) slotted in and held beautifully on some of the meatiest South Beach (Miami) A frames Ive seen in years. Seems that shorter always works better for me getting down the face on a heaving take off of any size. Since it slots in high, the down the line speed and seeming weightlessness at times was hard to control. But if you hesitate even slightly while taking off at SoBe.....
