Today my friend was a little late to join me in the water and as I knew he was arriving very soon I left the board I brought for him in the back of my pickup....12 minutes later he shows up and the board is gone....He waves me in from the shore and we call the satellite beach police. We give a very good description of the board and Officer McGann spotted it as the alleged thief was getting ready to take it for a test ride at Pelican beach park....Suspect in custody....Board returned

My question to the three of them in the car is why did you take it????? I have a spare board I brought just to loan out to anyone who asks. I have never said no to anyone who said dude can I try that sic looking little board out. Ill bet nearly 100 or more people can attest to that fact.

The cameras in the parking lot work.....DUH

Below is a link to the board

Awesome news. It's not often that you hear about a stolen board returned to its rightful owner. Thanks for sharing. Nice job Satellite Beach Police Department!

That is great news.

And it's not like that board isn't noticeable. Do all of us a favor and press charges.

That sure is a refreshing outcome. How anyone can rationalize taking someones property is beyond me. I had a similar thing happen at the end of the Sandy swell in the Publix parking lot ....but my board was never found. The kicker was that it was getting dark and a couple surfers were drying off preparing to leave as I left were probably the perps. The board was "unattended" for about 20 minutes lying in the grass...new RPD, H2 fins, new cord. There as some half ass little note left that "we got your board" ...but the number was disconnected...

It really sucks that you can't leave anything laying in the open without some degenerate scumbag/s coming along and taking it. if it isn't yours, do not touch it is how I was raised. I am happy to read this story had a great turnout.

Yes, it sucks you can't leave anything in the open.

Glad you got it back, ...
...but I NEVER leave anything unlocked or unattended anymore.
Not even doing a 5 minute surf check.

Sad, but it only takes a few minutes to lose something.

Not only do the cameras work....they work well...Ill bet they can read the stringer writing on sunrises old poka-dot longboard.

No more peeing in the bushes before they open the restrooms.

I saw the video and will not back down from pressing charges....It was obvious that they were well prepared for a snatch and grab....Looked like a routine behavior in the video.

put the thief on blast so everyone knows who to watch out for. we have a pretty good instagram page out here in Hawaii. @pilau_fahkaz . It gets the memo out quick.

Brevards beaches could use a page like this.

C'mon Cole, we don't need to press charges. You know we police ourselves. That would be lamer than this whole 1st ST VB thing.

Like Longbeard said - just put 'em on blast.

Great idea LB! Let's get it started.

Nextdoor.com is also a good way to reach people in the area too.

It does not take much effort to expose people these days.

Police ourselves? I don't consider someone willing to jack someone's board as one of "us".

I agree with Cole....

Dora often had personal reasons for not wanting the cops involved in certain situations.

Please explain how handling our own business as surfers is taking the side of the thief miker?

I think my posts above clearly show I am NOT taking the side of the thief. Rather we can handle it our own way. Post the mug so we know who the person is - the humiliation is punishment enough.

The dude could be from O-town or Atlanta or Kansas. Publicly chastising him is equivalent to telling Ralphie and Shwartz that they should feel bad for daring Flick to stick his tongue to the frozen pole.
