I have a brand new surfboard (hasn’t even been waxed) and unfortunately someone put it down too hard on my garage floor. It now has a crack on the tail. |

You should have bought local. Send it back, let them deal with it. No really, just take a razor blade and scratch out the main crack. Sand lightly around crack so resin will bond to glossy surfaces. Probably blend where you scratched out the crack so there is more surface area for new resin/glass. Then take some cloth and pull out the strands so you just have the roving threads, tape one end to hold them together. Lay the wetted strands in the crack, don't make a mess tape it off. Real men fix their own dings.

the crack may just be in the "lap" and not through... if so, just surf it if you can pick at it with your finger nail, do what chopola said |

Local Shapers do lifetime free ding repair? Do you speak for all of the local shapers? I have several local boards in my garage I should go take them in. I have fixed my own dings for over 10 years (not often) through a variety of ways and it never worked well. I feel ding repair is an art, just like putting up a wall... framing and hanging the drywall is easy. Taping, mudding, texturing is an art. With a close eye it's typically easy to spot which was done by a pro & which was done by a weekend warrior. The cost is typically low and it's worth having the expertise of a professional. For the record I'm very handy. |

That Sucks! I broke my finbox out of my puddle jumper on the 3rd session. I had it fixed over at Catalyst in Melbourne Beach. Don't know who else in the area does ding repair.

I told you how to fix it. Its actually easier to fix that than an actual hole in your board. if your "handy" you could do it. It would probably take about 5 drops of resin, of course you would have to mix more.
I never insinuated a local shaper would fix his own product for free. Just trolling you bro. Go ahead and bring to a professional, I guess you will be giving the local surf industry a least some scraps. |

I would reinforce the tail with a layer of cloth to fix the problem once and for all.

It's ten minutes worth of work for someone with skills, but the repair will be solid and waterproof, so it's worth the $20 or $25 bucks to have it done.
