This is big time on the female side; some seriously deep talent. I hope the ocean cooperates.

Local pro surfing has been dead too long. It's refreshing to see the buzz back in Brevard.

Gota give a big support shout-out to Rylan Rubens who will be in the contest - I've watched this kid grow up charging Blacks Beach (I've recently moved here from SD) and he can tear it up and handle his own in some serious size and power. That and he's a genuinely great person - super humble and nice. If you see him on the beach at the contest give him some encouragement - just say "BMC Baby!"  - he'll get a kick out of it.

Clean well shaped and weak south side. Rarely does a contestable wave break there- at least inside . They are ripping it even though not optimal conditions.

If the Flo-Pro Comm/Marketing people are on this site, yknowyknowyknowyknow. C'mon-- you've got to do better with who you are putting in front of the mic. It makes Central Flo r ida look like a buncha mainline amateurs. Plus, the're making fun of those part time residents who've come out to see what's it all about due to their non-waterperson nature. Pretty damn unprofessional. We'll see if there isn't some change as the day goes on.

Did anyone try to watch this? The audio was fine, but video kept pausing the whole time...not that there was much to see.

It kept buffering on my phone but the video worked fine on my PC.

And as far as wave quality if you watch the WQS events these waves are pretty similar to what they are used too.

Too damn cold for any Floridian to handle. The water will be in the low 50's if this crap weather doesn't break soon.

Went up to the inlet this morning to see about a dp session. Got there predawn and the parking lot was already busy with wetsuits being donned. Up in the contest area hiding in the wind shadow of the tent I could see a couple of surfers already on it. Moderately strong NNE winds and about 45 degrees air temp. Very messy but with some good size chunks coming through. I turned around and I saw I had been joined by about a dozen young lady surfers all shivering in their wetsuits. But they got their game face on and headed up the beach for a pre contest surf. Within minutes the line up was full and the girls ripping getting surprisingly good rides. Conditions continued to improve up to contest time with Heat one in the water at 8.

I was going to paddle out but felt a little odd being the only guy among 20 teenage girls.

But my morning was made when I saw Carolyn coming out after her surf and was able to congratulate her on this past season and making the 2018 tour.
