My favorite piece from the article"I had a little "ritual" so to say everytime i paddle out in bigger surf, i suggest you try it. If you are religious at all, do the sign of the cross and flick the water out of respect for God, then right after you flick the water take a scoop of ocean water and swallow if out of respect for the ocean. Both will watch after you when surfing."

I like "a majority of people have no idea how a rip actually forms and claim they can spot one, but in reality only about 70 percent of people can actually spot one"
hmmmmmmm
always thought a majority was anything over 50% but maybe that's just me......

https://www.raw.surf/blog/surfing-dangerous-conditions-right-passage-florida/ And by dangerous, you mean a clean Tipper "waist to stomach?" Seriously though, I've pulled around 3 different people out of rips at Ponce Inlet just last summer season. While the lifeguards in their Ivory tower apparently did nothing... |

At Vero, the rips are usually tame but shorepound broke a 50-something visitor's neck last year. Fatal. Rips seem to be occasional problems for surfers in places like Australia. Here's an elaborate and competent visual "How to Spot a Rip (and what to do if you get caulght in one) from the Sydney Morning Herald.

You probably should have read it before replying, as the beginning states that the waves aren't dangerous, it's the other elements. Panda - Not that they are all like that, but I've never feared more for my well-being than when someone on a SUP was bearing down on me. Edited: 01/15/2018 at 09:09 AM by larenyon |

There was a snowbird SUeePer in the backyard this weekend that must have thought a hydrofoil would help him clean our beach even better and faster. It was potentially very dangerous, but he stayed away from others in the water. He almost killed himself more than once, though. I don't get it.
