Oh god.... they're back. Daily walk to end of my street and was dismayed to see all the heavy equipment parked on a freshly graded staging area in preperation for beach restoration. Yup, big trucks up and down the beach just in time for winter break. Talked with guys doing the work and they said this time they are acually using sand instead of the dirt they used last time. So be nice to the grumpy sup'er how has been dislocated from his local beach access and now has to surf with the rest of you at Paradise Edited: 12/09/2017 at 05:28 AM by Dahui321 |

80% of the new "sand" will wash away in a couple of months and we'll be back where we started in under two years. Such a waste of taxpayer dollars.

The Seb. Inlet Surfrider folks had multiple meetings with Mike McGarry that culminated in improvements to Brevard sand fill quality. So, at least the sand quality we will be receiving should be better now (turtle friendly also). That marl they dumped a few years back up in Satellite was awful. |

I heard they started trucking in sand. Anybody have a visual? What's the quality of the sand look like? Is it actual sand or just more dirt?

Well went to check the sand? yesterday. WTF its the same crap the always use. Clay/shell mix. This is hated. I heard all the people in the know and buracrates saying it will be simular to what is on our beaches but is not!!! What a waste of my money. Took a little and mixed with water, and what do you know....concrete. Turtles are going to love this stuff. I predict nest will be all the way up in the dunes again this next season just so they can acctually dig a hole. |

Well that didnt last long. Checked beach today and glad to report that the dirt that had been piled on our beach is on its way somewhere else thanks to Ma Nature. Almost up to the orininal dune line at high tide. Should be back to normal by the end of this weather event. Thanks Ma!!! They had just finished or little section last weekend and are currently posted up on a lot at the end of Pinetree Ind. What a waste of taxpayer money. Anyone knows when this dumbass project comes to vote again? |

This is Disgusting...
Those shoreline reef areas were determined to be 'off limits" for renourishment as they are protected habitats... similar to prohibiting land development due to protected Scrub Jays and Gopher turtle habitats. So politicians overcame this obstacle was with promise of creating an offshore reef to replace the living one near shore, which the renourishment sand (dirt) will cover and smother. And now ... dirt instead of sand? Hopefully Mother Nature will save our reef by quickly sweeping away all that dirt fill before it kills the reef life there. Time to hold those politicians accountable who voted in favor of bypassing Fed's protection of the reef habitat. ------------------------- ... positioning and selection |
