Not that I go that much, but

Volusia County Council Votes to Double Beach Parking Fees

I suppose 5 times a year is going to be the break even point.

Might get more crowded in Brevard, if not with surfers, but tourists.
Parking here might be affected.
(Two years ago, it cost $5 to park at the beach in Volusia.)

Just the cost of surfing. Cheaper than golf I suppose.

Criminal extortion racket. Read Murray Rothbards' anatomy of the state to shine light on the subject. Available on PDF.

OMG- this is truly insane!! Volusia is the second highest tax rates in all Florida second to Palm Beach......even Naples is lower.

One only needs to look at the staffing and empire building within the parks and recreation department to see these folks have no check valve....it's just one big spend after another and hire, hire , hire!

I remember when driving on the beach was free. Now they staff after school training programs, teams of beach police, and you name it.

The come back by these folks is always " hey Disney charges $110 a day...this is a deal!!"....really?!?!  Why don't you just jack it up to $50 a day and see what happens...this is a microcosm of our Federal governement at it's absolute worst- way to go Volusia!!!

I remember they actually said "Disney charges $20 to park, so I don't see why this would be an issue..." a few years ago when they increased the price from $5 to $10... best example of comparing apples to oranges

They do have to pay for the people to pick up the piles of trash and debris left by the visitors...

Yeah they're renovating a lot of hotels on the north side of Daytona Beach... a lot of them were really run down non chain types that I think got into situations between Irma & Matthew... Recently there was a sign on one of the construction sites for westin coming soon and I've also heard rumors of hard rock hotel? Maybe instead of Dirtona we'll start calling it Paytona?

get up early and go surf - it'll make that hangover go away and/or make the workday more tolerable :)

Mmmmmm makes you think, The last time I drove up there. There were 3 attendants standing at the drive thru post. One of them was collecting money and the other two. Not so sure.

Looks like I'm never surfing there again. Not really too bummed about it. It will be overhead here and NSB will be waist high. Its only good when its flat everywhere else and there will be a waist high bump there. Other than medium size, peaky surf I've really never scored any real waves there. And when it does get good its kook central. Let the people who live there have they're shitty waist high grovel waves, theyre probably stoked on the fees going up because it means less visitors. Oh and fuck the government for charging people to access certain areas of land because they drew imaginary lines on a map and called it a state park.

I'm not paying $20 to surf with 200 semi pro / unemployed surfers and get bit by a shark in the process. They can have the zoo to themselves.

Frothing has it right. If it's actually good, it's better an hour either direction from Nsb. If it is tiny yeah the inlet can give the swell little juice compared to other areas but that's about it.

Frothing has it right "it's only good when it's flat everywhere else" Well, that's about 1/4 of the time. It's at the north end of my range but if it's flat and I want to surf I'll spend $20 just for beer, buds, and gas to get there. Nobody rides for free.

"I remember South Africa in the late 70's, sleeping on the beach at J-bay, smoking ganja with the blacks. On weekends we'd go to the pub in East London to drink beer and fight with the Afrikaners. They liked to fight, I liked to fight. It was a good time"
