i leave the battery out of my spare key, then it can be locked in the car (my car has a slot where even dead battery key can start the car)
Bring the metal portion of the key into the water, which only unlocks the door You may also be able to wrap the key in tin foil and lock it in the car, still need detachable metal door key though |

Toyota? Does the door handle have a key hole? If so just take your valet key or the key blade that's inside the electronic key to Ace and have them make a copy without a chip. They will tell you they can't make it. Just tell them the copy doesn't need to start the car. Wrap the electronic key in foil and a sunglass case and that will block the signal and you can lock the electronic key in the car while just keeping the copy in your board shorts.

realtor lock box and then hook it to door handle, or rear tow loop, or anywhere it can attach. Other is magnetic under car box.

If Toyota truck lock spare in hitch safe, for others we use a watertight aquapack (can get online or in dive shops). Watertight pouch you can wear on a lanyard around your neck under a rashguard. works for us when traveling and using rental cars.

Thanks for all the info... it was more than helpful. Bunch of good ideas...should be able to rest easy out in the water now without looking over my shoulder every two seconds.

Just solved this issue myself.
Realtor lock box with detached metal portion of key. Lock the realtor box to somewhere on car. The electronic part in does wireless unlock so I had wrap it in foil and leave it in the car. I suppose I could surf with the metal only key, but it's more bulky than any previous car I had so I didn't feel comfortable surfing with it. Haven't had any problems with this. Lowe's has the lock boxes. Next question.... ------------------------- I type on fone 99% of time. Let the typos slyde. Thanks |

Nice idea, using the foil. It's not just for covering your head, it also can be used on keys. LOL

I use a metal Altoids like box since the foil was always fraying. When the battery is new, I have to put it in a certain part of the car to keep the door from opening.

The altoids box got me thinking. Amazon has RT safe bags that you just drop your keys in to. Kind of like the RT safe wallets. You're right about the foil. It crinkles up and isn't good after a few uses. I keep a few folded up pieces in the car to help with that. ------------------------- I type on fone 99% of time. Let the typos slyde. Thanks |
