Finally went down and actually got to surf 8-10' surf in Delray. The famous mythical slot swell was real. Real good.

I was on it from 2-5 and it was fun.  8-10, I wouldn't say that, but it was fun even with a little wind on it.  I wish the outside was connecting better to the inside though. After the initial drop on all but the very biggest sets it was kind of mushy imo. Good practice run for the coming week.  Amazing that several miles away north and south- dibble

Perhaps I was under the influence of the wave. 6-8 with occasional 10'. 3rd caught a legit ten footer. And it was a bit of a burger but fun. Not connecting through but still a good time.

It had good size even down in the Spanish River area. Bottom is so screwed up tho I was having to catch straight white water takeoffs anywhere outside - just to get some kind of roll in before the chiropractic adjustment on the inside.

Crazy how it was chest high and dropping in the am, then outta nowhere big lines showed up like someone flipped a switch.

I might even be happier the water clarity is on the way back. The fish were partying and it was nice to be more visible with all that going on. Beautiful day.

I was there 3-5pm it was pretty sizable for Delray about 5-8 on sets.  it was def sneaker swell, i've been surfing this break for 20 years i know what it looks like.

it was fun for sure and had that building hurricane swell punch. it wasnt connecting to the inside so that sucked, but overall a good time, I was happy to be there

as far as pictures go somebody had a drone flying over us for a good 45 min not sure who it was...but i know they have some good footage.

I'm a believer.
Back in the early 70s I surfed that area when there was a big storm moving up in position like Maria to sneak swell in thru that gap.
Had traveled down to South Beach for surf, but it was minimal.
On the drive back, stopping for gas in Boca Raton we heard there was good surf in the area.
Seemed like we surfed a park ... Ocean Park?
And it was head-high, peaky clear water fun.
Checked Ft Pierce on the drive back later and saw waist-high at best.
lol... none of my buddies really believed us that we caught fun waves in that area.
Have never been back, but locals there prob watch for strong se swells to sneak thru.

It's so rare that they see actual waves down there we can excuse them not being on their game for calling size.

The slot swell is for real. I've seen and surfed it a few times during college at FAU. Craziest part is that it can be double overhead at one spot and pretty much flat a mile or two down the road. They are usually over in a matter of hours. The gap in the Bahama Banks is very narrow, so conditions have to be just right for it all to come together. Delray is usually the spot, but I caught one at Deerfield Pier a few feet overhead with reeling rights down the beach. It's a total novelty, but so fun to actually score one.
