I think I'm going to go for it. We're supposed to get around 87% coverage, so perhaps visibility will be similar to an early morning or late evening session. Or maybe it'll get too dark and I'll have to get out

It maxes out at 2:51.

Bro, that's why I'll just wear my eclipse goggles while I'm shredding, it'll be so retro!

You can see the moon's shadow moving across the US and then the Atlantic on the NHC's satellite loop.  http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/tatl/h5-loop-vis.html

Just got in from surfing SatBe. Surfin the apocalypse eclipse peeps.

It was WILD. Just wind waves mind you up to the rib high range with some bigger and most stomach high. Plenty of shoulders and sections. Not much juice (being just wind waves) but better than it's been.

But I made sure I got out there before the eclipse started. Then everything got darker (not black ever) -- it was gold like dark amber/gold. Like surfing with those iridium Oaklies from back in the 80's. Like surfing on another planet. Not a fantastic wave planet mind you, but still. the light and shimmer on the water and your skin was wild different. It kind of messed with your depth perception at its hight. BUT IT WAS A TRIP catching rides with all that light show going on!

It was cool and very worth doing.

Very "cool" with a noticeable drop in temp and some fun rideable waves.

A nice little lady walking down the beach let us use her "real" shades to check it all out at the peak too, thank you!

I surfed in the morning at Summer Haven, when it was somewhat choppy. Then I went up to Anastastia State Park intending to just watch to eclipse, but the waves were actually pretty good so I got out the board and surfed up until a few minutes before the peak, then came out and put on the glasses. It was a neat experience -- it did get fairly dark but it was different type of darkness than it is at dusk.
