Does any one have any experience using those newer front foot wax substitutes. HexaTraction Clear Surf Grip and those type products. I'm not referring to using astro deck types products

Octopus front foot traction is awesome. Have it on my fish. I always wear a rash guard, but no rash from it at all, good grip. Was a little weird at first, had to adjust, stubbed my toes getting up a bunch, but once I got a feel for it, it worked really well. |

Been using a front pad for many years after buckling my knee from worn down wax in the heat in El Salvadore. I have always worn a rash guard to protect against rash. I used X trak but they are out of business. I currently use Astrodecks front pad-buy on-line. Its rough so where a rash guard. The pad will wear down with time. Also, its very important to figure out where you place your front foot when you get up on your board. This will help you when installing the pad in the right spot on the board. You want your front foot to land smack in the middle of the pad when you get up. The pad will help with your surfing because you will have good grip allowing you to drive out of your turns better. It just overal helps you from falling. I do not do much airal surfing but I have seen more airal surfers begining to use them as it helps with the landing. hope this helps. I will never go back to wax!! |

I have the waxmat from Surfco Hawaii on a board and it works pretty good. Can be found at Longboard House on a CI there to get a look at it first. https://www.surfcohawaii.com/Wax-Mat-s/159.htm

The thinnest sea dek material is very similar to the old x trax (which was awesome and did not tear you up)
I ordered the hex trax for a new twin fin being shaped.. Hope it works, the reviews are mixed. Wax at looks pretty cool and if tip say it works!! |

funny you say that I stubbed my toe a few times on my Octopus front traction. I thought it was me just getting old and kooking on my pop ups but maybe there is some rhime or reason to it. |

I installed hexatraction on a new 5-10 Chris Birch Fish. Finally got to ride it last night.
It worked great. Felt like skateboard grip tape under my front foot. So far, it has not rashed my legs up and does not feel all that harsh. I did have a bit more trouble sitting on the board.. seem to slide around more than normal.. which could be just getting use to a brand new board. Paddling with a t shirt on, I also slid around.. but again, may just need to get the new board wired better. I plan to add more 1/2 sections closer to the rails for more duck dive grip. I'm not sure about a good wax alternative, but what you can do is wax your board up really thick, let the sun melt it so that all the oils come out and gets rock hard after cooling off, and then run a wax comb through it leaving a pattern of mini diamonds. Works for me and I haven't waxed up in over 6 months. Its like surfing with superglue on your feet. Edited: 08/23/2017 at 01:34 PM by Sector9surf |

Hex traction is $65 a box on amazon. I have 4 boxes for boards I already sold. Will sell for $30 a box. |

So, you wax the front foot, but leave the back one all hairy? Clearly I've lost track of surf fashion. ------------------------- add a signature since I'm here in profile anyway |

The resistance from the friction of hair on the back foot helps grip when throwing an air reverse. |
