Newquay, Cornwall, England.  It has a direct train to London, attracts badly-behaved young adults, there's complaints about badly overcrowded beaches . . .

And you walk into the spiffy new Sainsbury's supermarket and the first thing you see, hiding the precious strawberries:

Short walk from Fistral Beach, which mostly had too much wind and mushy waves, up to about 6'.  Huge tidal range, very gently sloping beach.  I was taking meds for a small corneal ulcer.  Should have brought along a longer camera lens.

It was around 55-57, air similar.  A few locals were wearing hooded suits, most looked like they were wearing 3/2 or 4/3, no booties or gloves.  The photo is from the deck of my little "hotel", on a street with popular free parking.  This phone photo is a bit more helpful in showing the fairly large mush.  Video would have worked better--some quite long rides.

I'm working on photo albums for NPNR or Nice Shot.  Despite being land-bound, it was nice to finally see the green and pleasant land of England from the train in late spring, get a look at beaches with extreme tidal ranges, and get a look at a really beautiful coast.

Didn't do any significant price checks, apart from ritual souvenir t-shirts.  My collection of Gildan t-shirts has grown.  Central Florida Palm & Cycad Society, Ainu Museum in Hokkaido, Japan, Northshore Surfshop in Newquay.  Must be the t-king. Looked like clothing prices, list at least, are higher in the UK, despite the great exchange rate.

BTW, Hurley has had some wetsuit sale prices lately; also worth checking Swell for some Patagonia prices.  An online "club" retailer, Left Lane Sports, has an Xcel sale.

Looks like England's having a heat wave.  I made it to the beach just in time.

Norwegian is now offering weekly nonstop flights, Orlando to London-Gatwick.  There's cheap flights from Gatwick to Newquay airport. It might also be pretty easy to get to Newquay airport via Dublin (cheap flights via Aer Lingus).   Of course from Florida, I think there's access to whole lot of better surf, cheaper.

The mushburger that I tried to ride this weekend ended with the high tide. That looks like fun comparatively. I wonder if those guys know about Costa Rica.

I think you'll spot Brits in Nicararagua.  Western Ireland is closer.  So is Portugal (even if it's burning right now).  Of course the local fun is in the winter with 7-8 degree water.

The ends of Fistral, notably the north (Cribbar) can apparently break impressively.  I was around on what for them was kinda small summer.

I was interested in seeing a beach with a big tidal range at a time when it would be showing off that range.  It was impressive to see the water come and go.

Here's Fistral at low tide.  You can see the high tide mark.

And here's the view from the hotel deck close to high tide.  Ridable mush.

I've linked to photo albums at Nice Shot.

Don't think I saw a single skimboard.  Gotta send some missionaries.
