Laird's thoughts aside, I always thought even the slightest bit of blood was a problem. Now it's not I guess. Again I'm talking about scratches, etc, so I can believe that amount of blood is not going to lure a shark to you from a mile away but I have to think it may single you out when they already happen to be close by.

have told my daughters to skip the ocean when "on" for years, why take a chance... plus I didn't want them sitting next to me in lineup

Well, this one is really personal for me — I'm a woman. I've been surfing, snorkeling and just hanging out in the ocean for as long as I can remember, including during my period. A shark has never shown the slightest interest in me. So gals, don't be afraid of going in the water and guys, don't be afraid of women next to you.

I DO understand the logic there.
However... we don't walk around on dry land, in street clothes, with blood dripping from our bodies, leaving a trail every place we go. The blood is contained inside the body. Likewise, being in the ocean is no different. I'm sure there is a "scent" emanating from the body, but the blood itself is contained. I hope this puts some fears at ease ;-)
