Hey Guys-

quick question- we are looking at heading down to Nicaragua on American Airlines. One of our crew is looking at bringing an aiprlane wing on the airplane- yep a 10 foot Walden.

Question- I can google the bag policy, but does anyone have any real world experince recently in dealing with this- my hunch is that's too large...but thought I'd throw it out there before we had any day of flight disasters- thanks for any feedback you all may have!

Well I've seen Joel Tudor and Bonga Perkins surf the Tree so...

A nice story about American, I recently flew and they charged my 5'8" in it's own board bag as the first piece of luggage charge like $25 or something.

Not sure why anyone would want to have a 10' board in Nica? Ever try paddling something like that into a 30 knt offshore wind?

According to their official policy it is not too long.

Specifications: Surfboard fee, $150 regardless of the number of checked bags. Lightweight surfboards packaged in a single bag that weighs less than 70 lbs. will be accepted as a single surfboard for charging purposes. Maximum weight and size: 70 lbs and 10'5 ft.

I took a 9ft board to Nicaragua a couple of years ago on Avianca.  Board made it to El Salvador.   Plane was too small.  They brought it to our front door the next morning!
