Hi all. I am looking for a used funboard for my 14 year old daughter. I stumbled on a 7'2" poly board that looks essentially new. Only thing I can find on these is that SA was a company by a shaper named Bob McTavish that was sold off to the chinese some years ago. It is not a cheap Chinese popout. As used funboards are hard to find I am tempted at $300. I would kind of rather have an east coast shape, but this does look like a good board. Know anything about them? It may be old, I am not sure, but it is flawless.

Surfboards Austailia was one of the many old abandoned  logos and Brands that some guy in NY registered about 15 years ago or so. Other Brands he has are Oceanside Spoiler, Challenger. He always hasa ton of them for sale on The NY Craigslist . All the new ones built in china or other far east countries.  Most are just so so at best.  Those newer boards have nothing to do with any of the older boards, that they share a decal with.   it's just a money making sceam useing old surf brands to sucker people. If the board is cheap it might be OK for a 14 year old to get started on.  Just understand what you are buying.

That's what I am trying to figure out. It is in like new condition and has a made in Australia sticker on it. It appears to be a quality built glass polyboard but all the information I can find is that it must be very old and or a cheap imitation something I'm not sure about. That may be why it's cheap because the shop is only asking $289 for it.

Here is what I know. I called the owner at the shop who is a well respected long time business owner and shaper here that said he bought it from some guy on Craigslist that need money. Apparently it is a new board that the label has been revived very recently in Australia and was hand shaped. From everything I can tell that appears to be the case. For less than $300 what's to lose right? I told him to hold it for me that I will be in to get it in the morning. Can't beat the price for a beginner board.

If she falls in love with the sport and spends as much time as I didn't in the water, she'll be on a smaller board in six months. Basically, she can use it till she wants something smaller and you'll be able to get most of your money back out of it

...if she lets you sell her first surfboard.

I was right.

Yeah Cole. She already knows how to surf a little. She learned on soft boards and I have a 7'6" Softy that I am upgrading. I actually had a short board shaped for her last summer, but it is too soon for that. I am hoping a year on this board will help her with that transition, get more waves, and have fun. Funny, when I was a kid in the 80's there were no surf schools, no one rode longboards, and fun shapes didn't exist. Imagine that.

Ok. Picked it up tonight. Good blank, good glass, decent shape. It will be fine our our purposes.
