What a disasterous, pityful display by Hunter Joshlin, Michele the "surf Nazi", and Cecil Lear. To forget Catri, in the front row, in a wheel chair, next to Cecil, is unforgiveable. Not to mention women's surfing contribution, Kathy Joe, Mimi, insane. Hunter can go on "America's got talent", and babble. No vintage surfboard displays, because we are not sponsors. Thanks Michele, Cecil. The list of shapers who owe their beginnings to Catri is endless, including Loehr and Slater.

Look in Slater's 2003 book, there's a picture I took of Ke11y winning his 1st major title at Cape Hatteras (menehunes 1982). He's riding a CATRI. The 1st contest I ever entered was the 1979 Labor Day surf festival at da pier, Dick was running it.
Huge over sight by Hunter.

wanted to preface this by saying that Dick Catri has done more for east coast surfing than anyone else I can think of. A central florida surfing legend. but excuse my ignorance, what is his relation to first peak and why wouldn't we be surfing first peak without him?

Here is a Fishing article from a 1983 issue of Angler's Guide in which Dick would have won $1500 for the BIG White Marlin caught....
"if he had entered":...
whoops...
When i asked Dick about this and why he hadn't entered???
...ummm, well,,, that's another story to be told later...

Not to derail the thread but that was your first event, Randy?

Mine too! Boys division. I have the group photo of everyone getting the trophies. What a good event to start...Hurricane David.

Support our local shapers. George Robinson (best balsa wood board shaper ever), Stu Sharpe (insane Sups), Ricky Carroll (most versatile shaper we have), Sammy Barker, to name a few.
