I have always been befounded on how much to receive for my boards when I trade them in towards a new board. So what do shops offer for a good condition board? Usual pressure foot dings and no broken parts on it. Also higher end brand name like DHD, JS, and Channel Island brands.

I thinkabout 1/2 of the new price is a decent place to start for a used board in good condition.
3/4 in excelent shape.

I'd like to disagree. This is trade in value vs private seller.

Keep in mind WG that he asked for a trade in value. Shops aren't offering 3/4 the price of a 600 board for a trade in. You can ask 3/4 price on an EXCELLENT board if you're selling it yourself.

Sell privately on here or craigslist and take the cash to your board shop to buy a new one.

$325 is probably the top of the spectrum for a used short board at resale, even a major brand name.

A high trade in price would be around $250.

Longboards are completely different. They retain more value, especially those with custom resin work.

New short boards at the retail level are a terrible investment, make sure you get what you want the first time.

This pretty much nails it.

Think what the board would realistically sell for, then subtract a $100

Yep, used boards are a buyers market these days.

I bought 2 recently from the for sale page here,

both Mayos in excellent condition, for around 2/3 new cost.

Thanks!

Be aware of boards with "aftermarket artwork" that wraps around the top and bottom, this is commonly used to cover a repair of a buckle/break that was fixed!

Thanks everyone. I'll keep that in mind for next time. I just have always used them for trade in value but never knew if I was getting a good deal. Now I know.

used shortboards... not soo much value since the new cool ones change every 6 months. i think the new hot one this week is the sci-fi?
but used longboards.. gold!! they retain value for years and years.. just try finding one in the summer time! lol
