They're was a guy (Trevor) that did this a few years ago. I'm sure that you can find his thread if search for it. I used a bar - it wasn't Sticky Bumps, but it was a decent wax.

I remember shaper/shredder Joe Johnson cooking up some home brew wax years ago that worked really well.

If you just want to experiment to do and use your own shit, then it makes sense.
If you're trying to save some money on surf wax, then it's retarded. You probably piss away more cash in a single hangover than you'd save all year making your own wax, unless you're talking about "STiCKY iCKY" wax, in which case the answer is yes and yes... Puff puff, pass ------------------------- |

Made some about 10 years ago when I was a grom. Used some bee's wax that we bought from sean ohare at sunseed co-op. Don't remember the exact recipe. but it was organic and didn't work that great. lol

I found a place for cheap bees wax, so I tried. It sucked.
I'll try again if anyone posts a real "recipe." ------------------------- I was right. |

agree with SoHIGH. Might be a fun experiment, but you aint gonna be saving no $$$. Wax is dirt cheap. I spend a whopping $5-10 / yr on wax

Can't recall the name but I believe Rob Machado has dabbled in the wax field. I had some of it a while back, it's organic, and actually in my opinion was better than sticky bumps.

Sticky Bumps, is there any other? Too damn sticky is the problem. I still go with sex wax when available. Sex wax?! That stuff is like adding bacon grease to your board. ------------------------- I type on fone 99% of time. Let the typos slyde. Thanks |

The Machado wax works really good. I'm not sure if it's really organic. The package says it's a blend and that it's "made with" organic stuff. But it works really good. For those interested in the more organic stuff (or stuff advertised as such), I've tried a few. The soy based stuff doesn't work well for me, and I'm not sure it's really that organic or anything like that. The matunas stuff (google it) is pretty good, but you must start with their base coat. Without base coat, it just smears onto the board. With base coat, it works really good. I think it's probably a little more eco than the other options since everything is made in one place on the matunas farm (at least according to their site). None of the more eco options work well with regular wax -- don't mix them. I've settled on the Matunas or the Machado/bubble gum stuff. Both work really good (and these two brands can be mixed without issue).
Sorry my response isn't related to the original topic -- replying to the last few responses. |

I like Sex Wax for longboards and funshapes because it forms good bumps. but for a shortboard Sticky Bumps is my favorite. The new green wax is a nice sticky. Slightly more sticky than normal Sticky Bumps but not as sticky as the Punt which is rediculously sticky.

Sex wax might smell better than any other wax but you might as well lube your board up with vasoline. I don't understand how anyone can actually use it.

If you let Sex Wax melt at all, you actually end up with Vaseline.
