I challenge all you wavehypers to an new kind of surf reporting. How about snaping a pic of the surf the minute you see it, then another pic the next minute then another the next minute and so on for five to 10 minutes. This would replace the tired old way of waiting 20-30 minutes til that one decent wave actually breaks then making it look as good as the Farrah Fawcett picture you had in your gym locker back in 67'.

visual third party surf reporting has always been a "business" in my eyes, not a public service. So its makes sense to me that the owners want to provide the highest quality 'product' without crossing the line of fabrication.

For example,

A. Taking your photos at select spots regardless of the amount of time you spent "checking it" and choosing to publish the BEST surf report pics of that day with special post-production filters to enhance color and visual asthetics of your reports so that BLat can text all of his friends a link to "insert 3rd party report here" to show everyone how fun and beautful the surf looks or how much my buddies blew it by not driving up from SoFLO - which drives site visits/clicks/traffic and thus revenue. $$$

B. Taking photos of C.Fl during a fun windswell and calling that a "West Palm Beach" surf report.

Option A is within the gray area of surf reporting, imo.

Option B will get ya lynched

moral of the story: check the reports, check the cams, heck go check it yourself - but dont whine about it. That wont make the waves any bigger

LOL

Those that bitch probably didn't surf.
Surfed Fri, 2-1/2hrs Sat & 2-hrs today, Sunday
But I'm old, easy to please and a longboarder.

Was it epic? lol, NO.
Was it fun? hell yes

Two other longboarders were also having a good time.
Both of them also surf shortboards/funshapes.

Adapt to the conditions, or find a new hobby besides bitchin' lol

Another younger longboarder texted me he surfed 1-1/2 hrs at one spot,
then moved and surprisingly found another hour and half of fun waves.

I always feel better having been in the water.
It's always good, .... some days are just better than others.

Just get off your rear end and go check it yourself man, if it looks good TO YOU then paddle out and surf, if not then go home or whatever else you wanna do.  Simple as that.

So you want people to sit on the beach and take a dozen pictures just to convince
some kook (you) to get off their ass and go surf? lol.. Good luck with that one.

Who wants to see pictures of nothing? We try and take pictures of good waves with surfers on them if possible. Then there are the pictures of empty waves, sunrises, birds and plants in that order.

But I would hope that the written report puts the true conditions out there. But again, it's going to be different at every spot and between Sat Bch and the inlet.

As others have said, you have to use a number of sources and your own judgement.

I have missed as many swells as I have caught because I placed too much faith in the reports. I think magic seaweed is wrong way more than its right and I think weiland is best so far for palm beach.
