Just picked up a Neilson Blunt from a fellow member. Want to try riding it as a single fin for a while. The board is 6'4 and got plenty of volume but I want to loosen it up and make it go faster. It accepts a longboard style center fin the one that has one screw in front and a pop in metal tab. Not sure what thats called to look for those kind of fins online. Anyone have an idea what size fin would be best for that board? I tried an 8" fin and it seemed a bit stiff. Can't find those kind of fins in smaller sizes on-line.

Single fin shortboards are a whole different animal, they take a lot of getting used to.  It will make you learn to use your body positioning and the rails of your board more than you ever have before.

That said, I absolutely love them!  I have a 7' that I ride a 8.5" Lovelace volan flex fin in and it fabulous.  It has a lot of flex to it that gives the board a groovy feeling when laying into turns....I feel like Bertleman (though I probably look like Wilbur Kookmeyer).

I also have a 7.5" Alex Knost volan flex fin from the Captain Fin Co. that is very narrow and gives a very different feel all together, very loose.

I would say pick up a couple fins and try them out in different positions in the box to find what you like.

Stoked for you man!  Try something different!  Yeew!

Sounds like Dan has outlined the plan. Lots of rake, flex etc would give it a lively feel, slide all the way forward.

The other thing to remember is that fin position is very critical. Before you spend money on another fin (they're expensive!) play with the position. An adjustment of 1/2" or less can be the difference between perfection and a dog. Start in the middle of the box- your shaper placed the box where it is for a reason. Then start making small adjustments and go from there. I would begin by going back-not forward. Moving forward does not necessarily make it feel looser.

Dan hit it, I constantly hear what fin should I use, you gotta try and bunch and change the positioning, how you surf is different from some one else

Best single fin for Florida waves.

I use a 9" in a 9'0" right now. But I had 5'10" retro Single-Fin that I regret selling before I found out this fin even existed. I would love to try a board below 7'0" with a 6" or 7" version of this fin.

I think i know which one you just picked up and im stoked for you. Board looks sweet. I also ride a 6'4 Blunt but only has a quad option. Just my 2 cents on the quad set up, stock fins and the board is sickk! I love everything about it except duck diving it over chest high surf. Quick and responsive for its size and bulky rails. Hope you get the single fin dialed in.

thanks Cuz. Yeah this board is fun. I had a chance to try it once since I got it in waist high plus glassy surf and it was so much fun. It was a dog to duck dive even the small waves. After playing with the single fin option  I will also just put in a large quad set into it or maybe ride it as a twin with big 4.5 " fins.

Hey Waverider....if you want to try out my 7.5" AK volan flex you can borrow it to see if you like the size and flex, I'm enjoying my Lovelace so the AK is just sitting on the shelf....just promise not to sell it on the black market!
