Lower budget trip ($1000ish or less). Traveling with 2 other people and not wanting to wear wetsuits. Open to go anywhere. I'm hoping some people on here have traveled around this time and scored somewhere. Any suggestions / info is appreciated. Leave the negative comments aside, it's good vibes here

Go to Costa Rica, fly spirit and send your boards ahead. It can be done if you know where you are staying. Check out Santa Teresa/Mal PAis. The wave is great, you have point breaks, beach breaks and you can even travel to the other side of the peninsula to Cedros or Cabuya if the swell is angled for it. The food is above and beyond most other places in Costa but its not cheap.

for 1k and 3 people thats 3k total depends on how long you want to stay in such place but with that little amount of money wont get you far unless you pool funds and head to pr and slum it. its been done before and the waves have been pretty good as of late

Im in aguadilla right now staying at Tom Lurker's surf lodge (another 2ndlighter is in a different room, total coincidence) and we will probably end up @ 4 nights, 5 days @ roughly 750-800 including airfare (175 ea.), Car Rental (110 total 5 days) Toms place (175 4 nights 2@ $22per night ea), food and drink (1.25 shots of dewars or crown lol)...get there, get it done! Wilderness was 8-10 clean as a whistle, 3 best waves i have ever ridden were today....

I've scored around that time - in Jamaica - for a lot less than that.... No guarantees on it, tho. Maybe DR ?

tough call, gamble with a Low being in the Atlantic during first week of March or pay 800 to fly to Honolulu, I know a spot you can camp for $17.00 nights ocean front N. Shore, It will most likely not be flat but will put you slighly over the 1K /person goal.....You should wait and see if long range shows any lows in the Atlantic if you can wait to buy tickets.  PR can/does goes small to flat for days. If no big lows in the surface map forecast I'd go to the Pacific (HI or C Am.)...Anyone want to share their favorite long range surface map site? Swell INfo goes out prettty far, not sure what they base there data on...

While the North Shore is always my choice (just got back) you're not doing it for 1k barring special circumstances.  Besides going for only 1 week (especially if you've never been) is stupid if you really want to get in the game.....

Like Mic said, best bet is not to have "hard" dates and see if you can hit PR, DR or CR with last minute flights based on swell forecast

oh, and I'm pretty sure swellinfo is based of the GFS (not positive though)

Where's that campsite? (just curious)

Campsite is on the North Shore 10-15mins from the seven mile miracle, I go there all the time.  There is a break there as well where a crowd will be at most three, such a cool unknown place, PM for details.  I spent many weeks there over the years.  It is the only place I stay.  You could do it for $1200 with a group of three, car rental and board rental are your only major expenses if you budget right.

ah, OK...... looking at the photo, east of Turtle Bay or west of Haleiwa (I can think of each)?  One of my best friends lives across from 'Gators, so I'm good anyway

Just got back.... cheapest economy car rental I found (priceline) was 28./day....I found out you can squeeze an 8-0 and a 6-10 into a toyota corrolla (travelling solo)

There are some guys that rent out their beater trucks if you're going longterm

I'd rather pay to bring my boards than gamble my surftrip on rentals

You have a Hawaian quiver that you take? I always take my own boards on surf trips but I figured my boards are probably too small for the North Shore in March so I might as well rent while there.
