All the flights I see on Jetblue (would prefer not to use after the JJF incident) and Spirit leave in the PM late and arrive the next day in the AM.  I can leave from West Palm, MCO, MLB or Tampa is the flight arrives at the reasonable time.  Any recommednations?

You are using one negative well publicized experience to narrow down your choice of airlines? I'm sure you can find thousands of happy surfers who have flown Jetblue. I myself flew to Nicaragua on Spirit Airlines and I didn't get my boards until 5 days later. Since that time I have flown on Spirit at least 10 other times without any issues regarding my surfboards, besides the odd ding here and there. Don't be sheep, if you are, I hope you don't vote.

Dont diss Jetblue for one neglagent baggage handler in LAX.  Jetblue is the best ride you will get to BQN.  Free movies, free wifi on most legs and lots of legroom.

It isn't one neglegent baggage handler, it is the company's wanton disregard for taking responsiblity.  Spirit doesn't make any claims to being anything other than the lowest common denominator for price and that's ok.  Jetblue claims to have customer service down to a science then tells someone "not my fault for blatant mismanagement of the bags" tisk tisk.

Beyond that point, both of you seemed to miss the question at hand.  Any flights not at ridiculous hours to BQN?  I want to do a long weekend flight in Jan or Feb without needing 2 weeks to recover from the lack of sleep.

Just fly into San Juan. Maybe you will find surf before you make it to the NW coast. problem solved.

Jet blue is your best option. About 8 years of traveling with them I've never had a ding. If my pregnant wife can handle the redeye I think you can too.... but maybe not. You get more surf time that way anyways. You can always fly into San Juan and drive. I think late spring through late summer Jet blue has midday flight times out of orlando.

Not a bad idea.  Always try to avoid San Juan but defintely pass some viable spots depending upon swell angle.

Have done that flight 12x in last 10 yrs.   Never had a ding and if there is a surf contest somewhere in PR they let your board fly free.    Our house is less than mile from BQN so we  are in the bed within an hour of landing.  then up for DP.    You cant beat the price so a little red eye slight is worth it in my opinion.  miss the days of $49 flight each way but $234 r/t isnt bad either.    Flew into SJ 1x,  will never ever do that again, couldnt pay me to fly into SJ.

If you want to fly to BQN nonstop for cheap you're going have to suck it up like the rest of us and loose a couple hours sleep on Jet Blue.

Jetblue has a seasonal 1030PM flight arrives 2AM.  www.jetblue.com

Not sure why limited day time service.

I have thought about flying in surfing and returning that night without ever getting hotel.

To answer your question - NOPE!  The daytime Jetblue flight is only during the summer months.  The other option is to fly to JFK and then back to BQN.  They have a morning flight.   My 6 year old daughter did the redeye twice last winter and did just fine.  Take a nap on both ends, no big deal.   As for Spirit - never again!  Two strikes on Nica flights and they are done in my book.  I'll gladly pay an extra $100 not to deal with all their BS.

I prefer jetBlue from MCO->BQN

3:25am arrival, grab boards and car on road by 4:15am arrive at house, unload and get fins in the boards, back on road just in time to paddle out at Middles by first light!

The most irritating thing about those flights, done it twice with 3 young kids, is you have to rent a car for an extra day and a hotel for an extra day.  When if you just had the normal times that you do in the summer then you save some money on the hotel and car rental.

Just did it this week on Spirit. Flew from ft lauderdale. My bro has a house in the Ramey area, backs right up to the lighthouse. El Faro on VRBO. Flight times suck but so damn convienient. Seriously, the airport is within 2 miles of Wilderness and Surfers beach. So f***ing convienent. The drive home from Ft Lauderdale sucks, but I had my two kids with me. So if they can do it, so can you young bucks.  Surf was soooo much fun this this week.

Edit: A note on Spirit, I got 4 of us roundtrip for $800 for Thanksgiving week. Pretty damn good I think. Buuuttt....I didn't have to take boards, had them there. You can rent for like $140/week, all new channel islands this season at Ramey Surf I think.

Also it's my understanding that BQN flies cargo all day. It's more lucrative than passenger flights is what I was told.
